Of course, pop culture's casual flirtation with homosexuality for the
purpose of heterosexual titillation is nothing new, and it certainly
doesn't mean that the battle for equality has been won.
Here in South Africa at least, thanks to our progressive constitution
and against the wishes of cranks such as Jon Qwelane — thankfully an
increasingly marginal figure — gays and lesbians enjoy most of the
same basic human rights as their heterosexual counterparts.
