Chicago Public Schools have proposed that a high school for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender students be built in an attempt to decrease the violence and bullying occurring in Chicago high schools.
High school can be a very threatening environment for students that don't exactly fit the "social norm," but does that mean their only option should be attending a different school?
Who determines what's normal and what isn't? High school is full of social groups and cliques that at some point will disagree with one another on some principle.

O, a ghetto-high school, how progressive! This idea about placing people already in a box in another box instead of taking the action of not tolerating any sort of harrassment in the schools is disheartening. One of the reasons I have some rather pointed disagreements with some of my sisters about the exclusion of anyone not their sort of transsexual from the GID spectrum as well.
Ghettos only work for one purpose, to isolate the minority so it's easier to find them when a pogram comes along in the minds of the "real" people. My godness!!
I suppose the way to get a person past racism would be to send anyone with any African heritage at all back to Africa or anyone with any Hispanic heritage off to the country their ancestors came from originally. That will sorta crowd Spain, but what the hey? And what to do with Hispanic/Latino-speakers who also have African heritage or Indian heritage? *sigh*
Smaller boxes, smaller minds. That, apparently is the solution to all of our "get-along" problems. No wonder MacCain/Palin have become Ken and Barbie. Stoopid rules.

The educational systems are only interested in turning out worker bees. They are not interested in improving the social fabric of this country or in making people smart enough to question the system.

I think there's been just such a school in New York City for years. While I certainly don't think it should be mandatory, I rather think the availability of such a setting would be a good thing.
