Remember Kim Petras, the German teen who is believed to be the youngest person in the world to ever undergo GRS?

Boy, how time flies. Three years ago the controversy was raging all over the world whether Kim, much less any transkid was too young to transition at age 12. We had a rather spirited debate about it on TSTB, and it led me to compose a post about the issue of teen transition and my thoughts on it.

There's a whole lot of misreporting and exaggeration going on here.

Some news articles are suggesting that she had GRS at 12 which is not true.  I am not sure she has even had GRS yet.
The "youngest to start transition" is not true.  She might be one of the youngest to get female hormone treatment though.

The first article said she is "ready to storm the charts".  Later articles in other papers are now claiming that she "is storming the charts".  The latter is not true.

The claim that her cult following has caused her to get signed to a "record company" is not true.  The company she is signed to appears to be a small one-man-band type operation.  She recorded a few singles and has been plugging them on her MySpace page for months.  I am dubious as to how much of a cult following she really has.

This appears to be a case where a British tabloid stumbled on her MySpace and has sensationalised the story quite a bit.

I absolutely wish her success, but a lot of this story is nonsense.  I hope this all doesn't harm her chances.  They do say that all publicity is good publicity.

I've read her story, Katia.  I think that it is wonderful that she's transitioning at such early age.  I'm a firm believer that the younger you start with transition, especially if you are MTF, the better the outcome will be in a lot of ways.  She's such a beautiful girl.  Thank you for posting the article! :)
