Title: Binder Causing Lung Issues/Cough?
Post by: Running Renegade on October 02, 2008, 09:01:50 PM
I ended up wearing my binder for WELL over 24 hours the other day, due to a rather traumatic event occuring, which led me to really... not care enough to undress and remove said binder.

This morning, I woke up with a cough and slight chest pain.

I've experienced chest pain from my binder before, but this time it feels different. Not more painful, but my chest is all... ew feeling. Like a cold, but... not?

That happens when the chest is compressed for a long period of time, fluid builds up in the lungs. Try to clear them out before wearing your binder again. You don't want to get pneumonia .

Yep, what Osiris said. The fluid in your lungs, with natural movement, works its way up. Binding too long can interfere with that, which is what's probably happened to you. If you don't give it a chance to clear, you could get pneumonia.

I've been coughing up yellowish phlegm all morning. >_< I still need to wear my binder (I've got school) so hopefully I can just use the weekend to give my chest a chance to decompress or whatever.

please do whatever it is you do to decongest yourself with medicine or something. Some people use eucalyptus based sticks that look like lip balm til you open them... some will combine peppermint and tea tree oil on a cotton ball... some use vicks... just please make sure you don't get yourself ill.

Also if you need to talk about the Bad Thing... we're here.

I had bronchitis and wore mine as it was ending, it sucked. However I mastered coughing directly from my trachea and not my my whole throat so I could get the stuff out.
