Title: What about (cosmetic) "body modification" ?
Post by: 4years on June 29, 2005, 10:01:15 PM

What kind of cosmetic body modifications strike your fancy?

Tattoos, piercing and things like that. (hair removal not withstanding)

Currently I'm oh so boring, but I hope to eventually get my ears pierced a few times, and I might eventually go with a few pretty tattoos as well.

Oh you're sooooo boring  :D :D :D Just kidding.  Got to watch out for those body modifications.  They tend to be permanent.  I myself have two huge tattoos of oriental dragons chasing each other around my body.  One covers my front, and leads to the other that covers my back.  None show when I wear everyday work ware , except for a tiny bit around my neck line.  It's all custom work, and took several years to complete.  They are quite beautiful.  I displayed them at the East Coast Tattoo Show two years ago in Bangor, Maine, and the girl that disigned and tattooed them took first place over all.

I tried the piercing thing as well, nipples navel, and mr wobbly, but I'm past that and I've taken them out, the only thing that I have pierced now is my ears.  But wait - now I'm boring ha, ha.

Hey if it looks good go for it - as long as it's done safely - and with your eyes open wide.

I might go with a second ear piercing but that would be it. You can keep the tattoos :P

I have two tattoo's. the one on my left  shoulder (that I had done first) is of a skull with cross bones and then the one on my right shoulder is of a colorful butterfly. Back in April I had my navel pierced, and now I wear a dangling butterfly that is  red , and my ears are pierced twice. I'm thinking about getting my nipples pierced, but i think I'll wait until my breasts have developed more.

As far as piercing go I think I'll stick with ears only, though I confess I do like the look of the ear to nose chain, I do kind of doubt I'll ever do that though, but who knows!

I like the idea of the large full body (or at least upper body) tattoos. I can't help but think a dragon or perhaps great cat on back with claws holding shoulder and head horizontal at base of neck (as if a companion holding on and resting) would be quite nice.

I'm very observant, and I've noticed that when girls get their cartiledge pierced, they only get one ear done. Why is this?

The first one hurt so bad that they didn't have the nerve to get the other one done  :)  Seriously though, you don't need a reason to do something you like.  If "You" like it, that's all that really matters hon.  I know that my daughter has odd numbers of holes in her ears, and wears odd earings.  She and her girlfriend go out and buy earings together then split the pairs up between them.

I've been considering a tattoo on my back, something like those abstract curvy line things that I see people sporting nowadays.  My concern is that I hate needles with every fiber of my being.  I can't stand seeing someone getting a flu shot on the news.

Also wanted to get my ears pierced, but again with the needles.... argh I have to get over that some time.

Well, there are two styles of getting your ears pierced that I am aware of, one is with a needle which I gather to be the preferred method, the other with a 'gun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ear_piercing_instrument)' which tends to be more common (not much training is needed to be proficient with it). Anyway given that, you would not have to go anywhere near a needle to get your ears pierced (=

I'm still torn between the gun and needle style myself. (I want two in each earlobe)

Gee, I hope I'm not the only one.....

I have a total of 10 piercings.
ears x3/each
nose
labret
industrial (counts as 2)

in case you are wondering the industrial is a piercing through 2 parts of your ear cartiledge. so it's 2 seperate holes joined by one actual piercing. the pic link below was taken like an hour after it was done so nevermind the redness. it really didn't hurt that bad.

For what it is worth wikipedia's Earring entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earring) has an illustration of the various types of ear piercing it seems. I'd not heard of an industrial until then and um...  :icon_yikes:

I have both ears pierced now. I did it myself with a rubbing alcohol soaked safety pin and some effort.

If i get any tattoo it'll be cosmetic like permanent lip color, areola color, or one on the lower back upper buttocks.

For me its just both ears pierced once in the normal manner and a rose about eight inches long passing through a heart on my right shoulder. Both came from bike riding days. Its amazing what you can wearunder leathers without it being obvious :). I don't think that I would go further and sorry but you can have the nose and lip thing. Maybe its just my age but no not for me.

I think all girls should have their ears pierced. I don't like eyebrow or facial piercings on girls.
I have my ears pierced. I wear 2 regular earrings in my left ear and I have strethed my right lobe to 13mm and wear a  gold plug with a hurricane design. I have pierced nipples and wear 1 inch captive ball hoops. The nipple rings have elonggated my nipples  and they appear to look more feminine.
Tattoos can be sexy if they are in the right place. I have a small palm tree on my right ass cheek. I love the tatoos thst girls get on their lower backs. If I ever got another one I would get some nice design on my lower back.

I have both ears pierecd twice and I have my belly button pierced. I was talking with a GG the other day about cartiledge piercing and she told me that it really hurts even months after having it done, so I'm a little leary about having it done. Can anyone explain why they only have their right ear cartiledge pierced only? ???

QuoteCan anyone explain why they only have their right ear cartiledge pierced only?

No idea what it would mean these days Gina, but in decades past it signified a free spirit, owned by no one or Dominant.  It was common for sailors to pierce their right ear after their first crossing of the equator up until more recent times.  It was not so common for a male to piece both ears as that was considered feminine, though it was common enough in the subcultures and was often done by warrior types, kind of a "dare ya".  The Left Ear only was rarely pierced especially by males, as that signified one was "owned" or belonged to another, it signifed servitude.

Like I said, not sure how it relates today, but when I was young, piercings had significant meanings, they were not generally done for "fashion" or to be "cool". In the subcultures they were identifiers.

You most definitely are no the only one!  I have (so far) a grand total of 14!

In each ear:  3x 10 gauge 3/4" hoops (stretched myself), 2 small novelty hoops in the cartelage, and one industrial
One eyebrow: Double ended spike
One labret:  Doorknocker at the moment (ball w/ a hoop coming down off of it)

Planned are 2 more in the eyebrow, and a "snake bite" ( 2 hoops in the lip, one on either side)

I get a new piercing everytime something great happens to me.  As im due for a few more, you can tell i've had a good year!  Peace~

I pierced my ears myself almost 25 years ago.  I just used rubbing alcohol and a large sewing needle.  It hurt, but wasn't all that bad.  I was surprised that I didn't get much comment about it at work.

I have my ears pierced.  My wife did them for me using one of the DIY kits from Inverness.  They have them at Walmart.
Easy to do and they use a very sharp stud so there is almost no pain and very little damage to the ear unlike most normal piercing guns.

Now I want to get second and third holes, but I think I'll wait until I can go full time.

Mine were pierced as a teen ager by a girl friend.  I didn't actually agree to the proceedure, she snuck up behind me, put her palms on my shoulders to relax me and then she put a thread bobbin behind one of my ears and with the other hand quickly pierced it with the other hand.  I didn't even know what was happening untill it was done, then of course, she pierced the other one.  I continued to wear them until the early 70's when i decided I should be male, though I would at times wear one in my left ear.  Years later, I started growing out my hair again and wore earrings in both ears which has continued every day of my life since unless I forget to put them in during the morning before leaving the house, but I put a few extra sets of posts in my purse to take care of that when it happens.  I feel a little "naked" without them.

Well, I'm not so boring any more! *wink*

I ended up with the spring loaded gun style, which I think worked fine.

I've two in each lob currently for a happy total of 4.
However, I'm thinking next time (quite some time from now) I will add 2 more for each ear, one more in the lobe and then a cartilage one. ... that, I think, I'll be happy with and will give me 8 total with 4 each ear (3 lobe, 1 cartilage). Currently I'm happy as a lark with my 2 lobe each side (= "About time" thinks I!

If it's a little blue box with a picture of an ear on it it's probably the same thing as what I had done, save mine were done in the store via one of the ladies there.

As for the future, well I MIGHT be tempted by another cartilage (one of the games I played the girl had 2 cartilage piercing and I liked the look), but no time soon. (Where have I heard that before?), and I MIGHT be tempted by a nose ring (just one, left side I guess), because I do like the ear ring to nose ring chain look but that ... well that depends on a number of things and remains in fantasy land. But, *shrug* who knows!

A note about the cartilage piercing, it did not and does not hurt near as much as I was expecting. Really it just felt like a normal piercing however it seems to just hurt longer is all. Not so bad really.

*chortle* I keep wondering if this is part of my 'irresponsible teen' stage or something, it's certainly the right time frame as I understand it. *wink*

Kimberly.addEarring(new CEarring("onyx", HumanBody::Head::Ear::cartilage::Right) );
assert(Kimberly.getPiercingCount() == 10);

Or to put it another way, I went in town yesterday and around 7am added what will probably be my last earrings as this is rather the look I fancied. I now have 3 lobe, 2 cartilage per ear.
*wink* Not that anyone cares of course! (=

Of note these two cartilage piercings really did not hurt all that much which surprised me. They hurt of course, but honestly not all that much. Kind of a nice surprise really.

So, 15 days after the 1st cartilage I've added another compared to the 5 days after to get another lobe. ... If that is of any measurement anyway :P

I have my ears peirced twice each and about 5 tattoos. The tats on my upper arms are both two different tats that have been put together. On the upper left arm I have a tiger climbing a rock and around that a dragon coming through a waterfall. On the upper right arm I have an dragon in an abstract shape underneath that is a full moon. On my lower left arm I have a winged dragon holding a fireball. I think they just look awsome! (if I don't say so myself...hehe) I am getting more work done at the end of the month. If I knew how to upload pics it would make it much easier to see what I am talking about.

I always wanted to get my ears pierced, and so 2 months before going FT I decided to get them done, im soo happy now that I have he abilitie to wear nice earrings (plus here in México a girl without arrings looks funny)

The next day when I went FT the girlfriend of a friend gave me a good advice, that I migth get a second piercing in case I couldnt tolerate the cheap jewelry (which is very common here)

So I had a second pair of holes in each ear but... The rigth one was s little lower than the left one, so I removed it and now that the swollen has gone im gonna get it done again, but in the rigth wa.

Oh and im really thinking of getting a third one in the left ear ^^

Hmmm, I'm jealous of ya all.

I've always wanted one small silver hoop earring. I dunno why, just seems magical, faerie-kin-like.

But my wife literally cries whenever I mention it. Gender therapy, lasering off my beard... that's all fine (well, relatively), but an earring sends the poor girl into sobbing.

3 tatt's
1. Right mid arm Chinese writing that says "Queen bytch" underneath my middle (female) name
2. Chinese writing down my spine (lower shoulder blade to tip of my butt)  that says Hate, life, angel happiness, gates of heaven, love, and Chynna
3. A chinesse symbol on my left breast  (couldn't resist once I got a nice rack!)  that says...
Well only I and the boyfriend know that one! ;) LOL

and of course both ears twice pierced.

The first thing I did when I decided to express myself more was to get my ears pierced.  One hole in each lobe.  I caught a bunch of crap about it from my coworkers but they eventually wrote it off as a symptom of male menopause. (If only!)  Only one guy accused me of wanting to attract men (YUCK!)  That was two and a half years ago - even before I allowed myself to consider I might be TS.

No tatts, though.  I've considered it but I haven't found any kind of image important or beautiful enough for me to permanantly mark myself with.

I would agree that you should carefully consider the reasons for getting a tattoo, as while they can be removed, it is very expensive and can be painful, more that getting the tattoo in the first place.

But  piercings my ears came when I decided to go to work in female clothing, the dept manager said that as long as it did not affect my job performance it was not his business.
