Title: HRT and eye changes?

One of the things I've needed to do for a while is get a full-on eye checkup. Besides updating my prescription, my father has glaucoma and some macular conditions and is consequently legally blind. So I take this pretty seriously.
I've been holding off, though, because HRT produces changes in the lens curvature which would throw my prescription off. It would be stupid to get new lenses, only to need new lenses again in 6 months.
This, though, is all that I've come up with that has any relevance to my question;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormone_replacement_therapy_%28trans%29#Ocular_Changes: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hormone_replacement_therapy_%28trans%29#Ocular_Changes:)
So my question to the group: Has anybody heard how long after starting HRT before the lens changes are pretty much all in? I've heard somewhere that it's about 6 months. Does anyone concur? Does anyone know of a different time period either longer or shorter, that I should wait?
I'd really like to ditch the boy frames...

Everyone is affected by HRT differently.

Karen, I've been on HRT for about a year now and I haven't noticed any changes in my eyes. I am far sighted and wear contacts for that but I still have the same prescription as when I started HRT. Sorry, I wish I could help.

Having been on HRT for over 5 years there has been only insignificant change in my nearsighted lens prescription. No more than the slight changes over the last 20-30 years.
However less than a year into HRT I had to stop wearing the contact lens because of dry eyes. My doctor presumes the dry eyes was caused by HRT.

How the heck are you. I've been on HRT for almost a year and a half, and like Julie, and Sandi I haven't experienced any changes to my vision and although there is a risk of the lenses being affected mine haven't. I wear bifocal contact lenses and I haven't experienced any change.
It wouldn't hurt to have a thorough eye exam, I did and apart from the existing deficiencies in my eye sight nothing else was discovered. Have you considered contact lenses?

Okay, okay -- Thank you ALL, sincerely, for helping me out.
I just remember reading that and decided that it was a factor that needed to be considered in my transition plan.
I guess I can go ahead and set up an appointment with an opthalmologist and get ready to order that nice set of frames I've had my heart set on!
Karen
BTW, because in my line of work I need to see stuff as undistorted as possible, I've chosen to go with 'flat-top T' bifocal lenses in glass. I just thought I'd throw that out as others had mentioned their eyewear. Oh, and yesterday my sister got 'bifocal' contacts for herself -- she was giddy with delight at being able to see both near and far -- albeit with either the 'near' eye or the 'far' eye ;)
Oh, and Steph -- Danged fine, thank you! I just got episodes 7 and 8 of Kasimasi, so I kinda' know what I'll be doing tonight :D :D

EH, I get a new pair of glasses every 3 months anyways. Your eyesight always changes, and even just getting a slightly different prescription always helps! I don't usually even wear mine except for when I'm goign off on 48 hours without sleep from work work work, which is entirely too often.
If you take Aspertame, don't. Why? Is converts directly to methanol which in turn cuts oxygen to your eyes.
I've also had a doctor inform me that premarin has effects on your vision. I'd highly suggest Estrodial over Premarin.
Eat loads of carrots and look for eye vitamins.
Other than this:
I'M CLUELESS!
hehehe.

I have worn glasses since I was around 5 or 6, my eyes changed several times at the beginning, but I have not changed the prescription in the last 35 or 40 years, even after being on hormones.
Like you, my mother had glacoma and macular degeneration. I have diabetes, hight blood pressure and thyroid problems, so the doctors watch my eyes closely, but nothing has changed.

Like Annwyn, but far less often, my prescription was changing every year for about six years in a row until it settled down to what I would call a steady state for me, and it has remained that way for now, even while I'm on HRT.

I have been on HRT for 8 years.
Two years after starting I needed glasses and I am longsighted. I put this down to the ageing process and I guess any benefits derived from HRT have not manifested themselves due to my poorer eyesight anyway.
