A doctor, whose departure from a Cambridge clinic in June shocked the community, filed a lawsuit Wednesday to fight a noncompetition clause in his contract with his former employer.
Dr. George Gay, along with Dr. Diane Wendland, was dismissed from Fort HealthCare's Cambridge clinic after an e-mail Gay sent to Wendland that was critical of FHC executives inadvertently went to the clinic manager, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit alleges that the e-mail provided a pretext to dismiss Gay and Wendland. FHC managers had criticized Gay, who is openly gay, for being "too gay," the lawsuit states, which they claimed limited the clinic's growth. His practice catered to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender patients.
