Title: Do you TALK to people in public restrooms?

Ladies, do you talk in the ladies room?
What about you dudes?
Girls in the chick's room always see my helmet and jacket and wanna ask me about my bike and what it's like. And my voice isn't overly high, but since it's so cold lately(friggin 50 degrees fahrenheit, PSYCHO) it cracks a lot. So sometimes I'll open my mouth and just disguise it w/ a really convincing japanese accent. Other times I just pretend I can't hear them and walk out, I guess the cold shoulder sort of fits me as a cyclist... 8)

Well of course, that is part and parcel of being a woman. That is part of our socialization. Men never talk to one another. Most of the time it is small chit-chat with other rwomen.

I think people fool themselves into thinking my voice is female. I don't seem to ever have a problem with the impromptu conversations -- if I haven't, I haven't noticed.
I'm the one quoting Joe Solomonese. You can decide if my voice is female enough or not. ;) =K

I do with people I know, like at work or if I'm out with a friend. Occaisionally I'll exchange with a stranger but usually I just want to get in and get out.

To ignore everyone is an instant out where I live. I don't go out of my way, but do often say hi, and sometimes have conversations when appropriate. Sometimes quite interesting things happen. Always carry some panty liners in case you are asked! I learned this by experience. :)

I have been asked to borrow one. I did happen to have one in the purse I was carrying. I guess somehow it meant I passed!

HOO-rah! Karen, you rock!
No, I don't talk in the public restrooms. It's do my business and go back to work. Small town conservative mentality. From what I am hearing, I may be one of the first openly out transsexuals where I live. And between working in a public school AND a supermarket, I am definately out! :D

Quote from: Aiden on October 27, 2008, 11:09:59 PMMen don't talk in the restroom... They fear some kind of gay shark predator if talking is involved. I usually use the stall to avoid it, but honestly... To hell with the mens room.

There is always one guy who is TERRIBLE at aiming and pees EVERYWHERE.
WHY?????
WHY? There is a toilet. I don't want to step in that you ass!
Not to mention people who don't flush. Stuff like that.
All in all a public restroom is one of my biggest nightmares. I desperately avoid the crowded ones and prefer the barnes and noble ones that aren't even known about. I like secret bathrooms. Lol

Uh, I can't imagine a moment in which I'd want to converse with someone else in the restroom... the point of a room with toilets and sinks is so you can do what you gotta do, wash your hands, and get the heck out. Do you really want to make friends in a place that smells like urine and feces? Chicks (or guys) who think it's a woman's job to socialize in the girls' room, in my opinion, are too obsessed with social mores. Join a book club, for god's sakes.

I talk to anybody that gives me the time of day, I love chit chatting. A chat may start in the bathroom then continue outside in the supermarket or shopping mall, which ever. I will even stop to talk to elders sitting on a bench, other ladies in the isl-ways, and yes, I love talking to little kids, their the cutest. But yea, I talk to anybody in the ladies room if they reciprocate.
Before I transitioned? In the men's room, memory is kind of vague, but I beleive I only just talked to someone else if it was someone I knew. If not, then I just did my business and left. I always preferred talking with the ladies anyway then men, one could count on a more in depth discussions.

In my experiance when I used to use womens toliets women love to stand around and talk in there or 3-4 women will come out of a stall at once.. its like a meeting place.. to b*tch about men as we aren't aloud in there..
But normally no as if I tried to talk to someone in the mens.. I think I would either get beaten up or looked at funny.. But hell I dont want to spend anymore time in there than I have to! Like Sebastien said it

hrm... interesting topic.
Tbh, im usually in such a rush i dont bother. but if its relevant ill chat, or make conversation, complain about something, if i go in with a girlfriend, ill continue whatever conversation we were having. Back when we had exams in jan, about 50 girls were cuing so we all nattered till we got a stall, then just left. Pee is pee.... and why must you have a cold shoulder as a cyclist anwynn? i always found other cyclists to be really friendly and open people... and a japanese accent? ROFL
as for beeing a looser using a single loo toilet... um, half my uni's ones are, im a looser too right? get a life.

I've never been one to chat in the restroom either, unless I'm with someone I know, and we're continuing the conversation that started outside. I've always been a little baffled by people who strike up a conversation as we're washing hands. (Or worse, while you're in the stalls. Really, unless the question is "Hey, do you have any toilet paper over there? There's none over here," there is no excuse for starting a conversation over the toilet.) I usually just smile and make pleasant, noises as seems appropriate at the time (Ah? Mmm-hmm. *polite laugh*) then try to make my escape as quickly as possible.
I find it interesting that while the ladies seem to be split on the issue, the guys all seem to be non-talkers by nature.

Oh trust me I love to talk. And I consider myself very friendly, except for when I'm not.
But public restrooms make me nervous. It's a combination of microbes everywhere, smelly bodyparts unleashed into the air, and that most mall-related assaults happen in public restrooms. So, I'm always a bit on edge.
And yes, cyclists are nice but honestly it's friggin annoying when everyone only wants to talk about motorcycles. If they're so curious, they should go get one themselves and see how long it takes before they get laid down.

'most mall related assaults' <-- the mens.
Meh, public loos yes, but then again i rarely use 'public' toilets, unless we count the loos around the campus at my university... but im sure they dont count as public. far too nice.

Once or twice, when others have started conversations with me, but I'm still far too shy and insecure and sh*t-scared of being read to initiate any myself.

If I'm out in town then I tend to use those ones that you put 20p in and that look like something out of Dr. Who... *giggles* a.k.a 'the Turdis'. So there's really only myself to talk to anyway. I like the privacy.

Hi Leiandra, Wing Walker and I are looking for software where we can record voice on a CD that can be downloaded and played by by way of a link. So maybe there will be a tiny voice from the great land of the BC rain forests on the airways soon. Well I do have a nice camera now to play with, thanks to Wing Walker, been a long time since I had me own play toys ta play with. ;D
