"Adult Baby" Is Her Identity, Not a "Fetish"

Viewers of the 2008 San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Parade last July were treated to a remarkable sight from one small contingent. It consisted of only three people: a hot-looking man named Brian dressed in adult-sized Buster Browns a large person named Tammy dressed in a scaled-up version of a little girl's pink-and-white dress; and the central figure, heidilynn, dressed in a frilly top and baby's panties and being pushed in a giant stroller. People couldn't get enough of them — before the parade stepped off, a number of folks from other contingents came up to be photographed with them — and two months later heidilynn, who lives in Phoenix, did a phone interview with Zenger's to give us a further introduction to the world of "Adult Babies" (AB's, also sometimes called "Advanced Babies").

Interesting.
The term itself is an oxymoron, but this person does genuinely seem to believe they have that identity. And if it allows them to conduct their lives in a way that makes them happy, able to feel comfortable with themselves, and harms no-one, who are we to judge?
I suspect that there may be other issues at play; maybe an underlying need to recapture youth, a desire to return to innocence, absolution of responsibility... but regardless, to each their own. :)
I find it curious that the identity is selective, though. Like... the person in that article has decided to untrain themselves in using the bathroom in an attempt to be more infantile, yet has kept the capacity for articulate, fluent speech and reasoning, and the right to freedom of choice... all of which don't fit with the identity expressed. Maybe those are things a person can't 'unlearn', or maybe doing so would make functioning within society almost impossible... in which case the identity is dependant on something outside the individual.
Still, the mind is an infinitely complex arena. Live and let live. :)

If a baby identified as a baby, shouldn't they not speak, and not dress themselves, and not do anything much? Shouldn't they be in a nursing home for people who can't care for themselves?
whatever.

I thought I was fairly open minded and accepting person until I read that.
I guess my main fear around it is that not that I am not accepting of them, but more of the fact that as a transsexual I(we) fight everyday for rights, protection, and acceptance in the workplace and through the course of life in general. The last thing we need is someone saying that if we have laws to allow for gender expression, then we would need to allow laws for "Adult Baby expression?"..... Which I could be wrong, but would probably not be generally welcomed by society in general.

I know I shouldn't get into this, but if they fight for their rights and get them, it means that one day, a part of everybody's job might be stopping what you're doing to change some AB's diaper in the workplace.
Because, of course, they'll have their own version of ENDA (the failed american Employee Non Discrimination Act), only, theirs will be known as BOTTOMA

But a baby identity isn't a gender identity, it's a developmental stage of all humanity.
And as for the workplace, well if someone adult believes they are a baby... babies are too young to work. So not getting a job would simply reinforce the identity.
It strikes me as a little unfair and hypocritical to adopt an attitude of 'we are prepared to ridicule, and don't want any association with these people because they'll make us look bad in the eyes of the wider world'.
Isn't that what we strive against, with regard to how society sees us as transgendered people, at the moment? Do we really want to turn into what we dislike others for being?
They're human beings, like the rest of us, with feelings and rights. The fact that society as a whole may have trouble accepting people who walk this path should not, in my opinion, give free reign to scorn and alienation based solely on fear of rejection by association.
*sigh*

Oh please. You've GOT to be joking.
The lunatic in the asylum who believes he is Jesus or Napoleon really believes it, but it's insanity, not an "identity."
I expect this has more to do with release of stress and escape from the demands of being an adult human being than it does with actual identity. What utter hogwash.

I think this example is useful for transexual persons like me in getting an idea of what many cisgendered people might think and feel when they experience us. I'm faced with a decision whether to "draw the line somewhere" or do my usual thing and take her at her word regarding her identity. I'm striving for the latter.

I like to think I'm fairly open minded with most things. I'll be honest, I'm nowhere near understanding crossdressers (I don't know many or have ever spoken to one in depth about it to see their side) but it makes them happy etc. without hurting anyone so that's cool by me (not that I think anyone needs my permission to be happy or anything lol!). There's just something unsettling about this. I mean are they attracted to other 'babies' or babies? Also, it just seems wrong to enjoy messing yourself (yeah, this is part of this on the fetish level). We have toilets for a reason.
There's being child-like in a normal sense and then there's....point made.

Yeah, its crazy to dress like a baby, when you could dress in adult costume and just go through life being one - whining, sniveling, crying and pouting - yeah, that's so much better.
