The Onondaga County District Attorney's Office has not yet determined whether to charge Dwight R. DeLee with a hate crime in addition to second-degree murder in the Nov. 14 shooting of Latiesha Green, the transgendered person whose legal name was Moses Cannon.
Police say DeLee shot the victim, who went by the name "Teish," as she sat in her car after guests at a party made vulgar comments about her sexual orientation. To add the hate crime charge, prosecutors would have to show that DeLee intentionally selected the victim because of her sexual orientation, or committed the crime based on that factor.
