On the name change packet is asks for your gender like 3 times.
If I'm changing my name from a completely feminine name to a completely masculine name can they deny it?
I think the two reasons I'm gonna give for changing it are :
Everyone knows me by Jason.
and it's the name on my diploma.
It's gonna cost me $210 just for the index number. I hope they don't deny it...
I'm so nervous that I've put it off for a few months.
I have no idea what I'm doing.

The reason that you should give is just "common usage".
You've just said that everybody uses your name, also for important things like your diploma.
You are just formalizing a state of affairs that already exists.
My forms did not have gender anywhere and any time that a pronoun might have been used they just left a blank for a name.

I double checked the most recent version of the forms, and it doesn't ask about gender anymore. (if that helps any)

It shouldn't matter. Not liking your old name is a perfectly reasonable reason that people use all the time. Furthermore, there have been VERY few cases in recent history of name changes being denied because of gender, and these have been well-publicised. It's not likely to happen. It's perfectly legal for a non-transgendered man to change his name to Alice or a woman to change her name to Dave. As long as you're not trying to impersonate someone, change your name to an obscenity, or escape your creditors, there's almost no chance you'll be denied.

Oh, and I realize this is completely off-topic (and kinda off-color) but in looking up legal aspects of name changes, I came across the first name-change lawsuit filed by a transsexual, a woman in New York. The case was titled "Mtr. of Anonymous v. Weiner." Snicker.

A great excuse for changing your name is; I was adopted and want to take my original name back. It worked for me they never asked for proof of adoption or anything like that. The judge just shook his head in approval and signed it. Took like 2 minutes total.

Why lie?
I got my name change in 60 seconds with "Common usage" as my honest reason and the judge didn't shake his head.
