"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in the State of California"
The Attorney General of California has expressed his opinion that these words can't invalidate marriages performed prior to Prop 8 passing. He's going before the Supreme Court to argue just that. Someone at my job has apparently decided they know better than the Attorney General.
QueerInSoCal :: Prop 8 fallout at my work
Last week my husband lost his job - just one more statistic in this economy. For the last 10 years we've both been covered under his insurance plan. He had executive level coverage through his job, while my peon-level coverage cost more and didn't cover as much. The choice was easy, when we had a choice. We don't any more.
On Friday I got onto our company website and started filling out the forms to get enrolled. First I had to declare a dependant. I chose "Married", because I am. I entered his name, his social security number, his date of birth and then his sex. I hit Submit and got a pop-up error message:

"If it makes you feel any better, look at it this way: Even if you were allowed to refer to him as your spouse you still would not be able to pay for his coverage pre-tax (like you do for yourself) because the Fed govt doesn't recognize your marriage OR your DP. Extending your coverage to your same sex partner costs you MORE than it does for your co-worker to cover his/her second or third spouse no matter what they call your relationship."
