The second one, Massachusetts, I actually knew, but I couldn't spell the word. So, it is actually 47 states...

As a Brit I got 40 and I'm ashamed of the ones I missed ... took the alphabetical approach otherwise you'd get into a total muddle !

What got me was spelling, never knew there were so many double letters in Tennessee, and of course Massachusetts and Connecticut messed me up too !

I can name all 50 states in about 30 seconds - but I doubt if I could spell them.   :-\

Only got 32, but I could name all 10 Canadian provinces and three territories. Probably a fair few English counties as well.

I got 49 in five minutes and spent five minutes trying unsuccesfully to spell MA correct. My result was then 49/50.

After 5 minutes I gave up.
I spent most of the time trying to remember how to spell MASSACHUSETTS.  :laugh:

I'd totally get more if the U.S.A was a more important country that people actually talked about - like Australia.

It's a really corny song that includes a list of all 50 states - in alphabetical order, no less.  Thus, all 50 states, in alphabetical order, are now permanently imprinted in my brain.  It's been useful for trivia games, but not a whole lot else.  :D

Maine, vermont, new hampshire, rhode island, conneticut, new york, new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware, baltimore, virginia, west virginia, north carolina, south carolina, georgia, florida, alabama, mississippi (okay that might be spelt wrong), louisiana, texas, new mexico, arizona, nevada, colorado, utah, california, oregon, Washington state, idaho, montana, north datoka, south dakota, nebraska, iowa, michigan, minnisota, wisconsin, illinois (soon to be named obamaland), hawaii  (could also be named obamaland), indiana, kansas, missouri, akansas, kentucky, alaska, oklahoma, tennessee.

it is now 0155 in the morning, 47. Please note I didn't cheat I really didn't cheat.

I actually have a good memory for remembering maps.

Okay I've now checked a map and I realise I missed two major states and one state that tends to stick out because of the cowboy legend.

Massachusetts, Ohio and Wyoming are the ones I forgot.

Here are my excuses for missing three states and I'm sticking to them.

Massachusetts, probably because it's difficult to spell and I always think of it as Boston.

Ohio, because I wanted to forget Jo the plumber, sorry, i meant Joe, then again he could be a secret TG and reading these pages.

Wyoming, "I'm sorry boy but there's only room enough in this country for EITHER Montana OR WYOMING" (I often get these two states mixed up)

Hey, still pretty darn good for an Aussie!

I tried to do the same for Australia, but forgot the name of the capital territory, the specific names for the big ones in the West (I called it "Western Terr." instead of "Western Aus." for instance), and totally forgot about Victoria!

So you did better for America than I did for Australia!
