ARGHHHHHH my PE teacher.

She used "she" literally like fifteen times in a row, within the space of three sentences. I confronted her about it after class and she gave me this speech about how she's "having a hard time" adjusting to the idea and I should give her more time. She's not even -trying- to adjust to it, seriously. Fifteen bleepin times, and not once did she say oh, oops, he. She also says that she doesn't believe me and that if I want to have male pronouns used with me, I need to get a signed note from a doctor. I called her bluff and asked if she would use pronouns if I got a note for her. She then realized I actually could get one, and changed her mind, saying that no, I needed to get a signed note AND proof that I have officially changed my gender, and since I am still female on my school registration papers, and "introduced myself" to her as female, she is going to continue using female pronouns.

Fine. She asked for a few weeks, I'll give her a few weeks. And then I am going to go ask my GLBT ally teacher to talk to her. And [ahhh me and the madre forgot about my doc's appt which was Monday, oh well we have to reschedule.] when I see my doc again, I'm asking him for a note. And I am going to see the school counselor after winter break and ask him what else I can do. And I am going to try and come out to everyone in my PE class, so maybe if they all start using male pronouns, she'll feel pressured to do the same.

There is no way in hell I'm going down without a fight!

LOUDLY correct her every time she uses the wrong pronoun; even if it interrupts what she was saying.
I used this method for the first few months of my transition.

Alternatively, call her 'Sir' and 'He' and 'Him' at every opportunity.
It's petty, but it gets the message across brilliantly.

Vexing: :-\ I have no problem doing that with students, but I respect her too much to do either of those. She really is a good person overlooking when it comes to orientation/gender issues. I'm just REALLY pissed right now mainly because she had the nerve to tell me if I was more forgiving instead of being critical, she would be more willing to listen to me. Manipulative much?

Emme: If I file a complaint, is it likely to be passed on to my parents? Because coming out to them is not an option.

Damn, I'd kinda assumed that if you were Out at school then your folks already knew? Won't they find out anyway, through other kids talking to their parents?

Vexing: No, my parents never talk to my friends, other students/parents, or my teachers mostly because I'm not allowed to have any over, and I'm a good kid, so my teachers never need to contact my parents. My mother kindof knows because she's asked me about it and I always said things like so what if I was. She's in denial though. And my father also kindof knows because he's asked, and I said maybe. He thinks I'm delusional and going through a phase and corrupted by the gay mafia. [Yes he actually said that and seemed to believe what he was saying.]

Emme: That is a good idea, thanks. I'm on Principal's Advisory Council, so it would be really easy for me to just have a word with her directly right after our next meeting. I think I'm going to suck it up and give my teacher a few weeks before I do anything outright confrontational, because I really do like her. And she loves me too; she lets me get away with anything in that class. ::)

It must be from the straight mafia.

Most high schools, if there is some sort of student/teacher conflict will involve the parents if they can.  Largely because there are possible legal issues, and as long as you are under 18, your parents, not you, have to be advised about all of that and be involved in those decisions.

Second, if the teacher has been around teaching for a while, and is in the teachers union, and being California, its going to be real hard to do much.  It's not like they can fire the teacher for that, not without some official order coming down or an agreed upon policy in place.

That is exactly what I would do. So what if you got into trouble you have already spoken to her about it and you have made your feelings clear.
