Title: Movies that make you cry

For some reason, I love a good weepy movie. If a movie can make me feel happy, break my heart, and then make me happy again, I consider it a masterpiece. Disney seem to be particularly good for this.
The fox and the hound gets me really bad every time.
Some others off the top of my head
lion king
the lake house
charlottes web
the pursuit of happiness
titanic
saving private ryan
forest gump
moonlight jellyfish
What movies make you guys cry? Or at least well up :P

A.I. makes me cry like a baby. I watched it the other day and I couldn't stop for two hours.
I get emotional in most movies, and whether I'm laughing or cooing or crying, there tends to be tears. I'll make a list and get back to you. ;)

I think it's beautiful and very tragic. The human beings in the movie are vastly less humane and "good" than the A.I's. I love how even a character like Gigolo Joe is a complete innocent.

I think you messed up the title...it should say "Movies that don't make you cry." The only movies I don't cry at are comedy movies, unless you count tearing up from too much laughter. Seriously though, I will cry at happy endings, sad endings, and everything in between. I'm a big baby when it comes to movies :'( I think I put myself in their shoes too much, lol

When I was young I would get very upset and cry at the end of Easy Rider. As I grew older, the ending got happier and happier. Now, I don't think the end is sad at all.
But I will always cry at It's A Wonderful Life.

It would appear that anything that ends with tinkly music and a long crane shot away from the location, or very slow fade out seems to work.

Bridge to Terabithia had me bawling the other day. I remember reading the book when I was a kid and feeling utterly betrayed by the author. It still made depressed and maudlin 20 years after I read it. I don't know why they keep insisting on trying to market it as a fantasy, when it clearly isn't anything of the sort. Very well written book, though. Pretty good movie, as well, though I don't think they did a great job at casting Leslie.

I'm a soft touch, so I try to avoid movies that will make me cry. I mean my mom caught me crying at a cartoon show once. But anyways, one movie that always stuck in my head was 'Best of the Best'.
It was the seen near the end, the awards ceremony. The Korean team had just won. The main fighter on the korean side looks totally thrashed and nervous. He finally starts hobbling over to the american team, over to the guy who he fought. He takes his metal and puts it over the guys' head and offers to take the place of his brother. :'(

Grave of the Fireflies
The passion of the Christ
I am Sam
Lorenzo's oil
Losing Isaiah
Not without my daughter
Steel Magnolias
All dogs go to heaven
Philadelphia
United 93
Awakenings
Field of dreams
Stepmom
Ghost
Patch Adams
Boys don't cry
A girl like me
...........and many, many, many others

Movies almost never make me cry. That's probably because I tried so hard not to because I thought I had to be manly - at the age of six :D. I think I am starting to come out of my shell though. Oddly enough, the first movie to make me cry since then was the Saikano live action movie, which wasn't even that memorable.

:o
I mean, you could argue that King Lear ends with a light, uplifting, cheery twist ... but Easy Rider?
--
I can't even answer the question, because I don't really register it if I cry at a movie most of the time. I remember that it was sad, but whether or not I cried, I just don't relly remember most of the time. The exception is Schindler's List: I specifically recall not crying at all for the whole three hours -- it was just too tense somehow -- until the last scene at the memorial to Schindler, with all the survivers and their descendents. The same exact thing happened the second time I saw the film.

Okay, it's not really a movie, but I watched "Beautiful Daughters" a while ago when I guess you could say I was at a tipping point in my transition. I went through literally half a box of tissues. I never saw it before because, well, I'm like that. I mean to watch things for years and never do. Kind of dumb, I know. ::) It's the most positive and real media portrayal of transsexual women I've ever seen, and I was amazed how much hope it gave me.

That's such a beautiful movie. I think of it, in an odd way, as American Beauty, the Guadalcanal version. (Or perhaps it's the other way around.) It got trampled by Private Ryan, which is sad, because it's such a different movie. Thin Red Line and American Beauty are, to me, about the beauty of life despite or even because of the ugliness. There's something of Milan Kundera in them both. (Either that or I was just rereading Unbearable Lightness again....)
Anyway, I just loved Thin Red Line. I wasn't so much moved to tears as moved beyond tears.

I'm glad it's not just me. I went to the theater to see it by myself when I was in high school. It was SO BEAUTIFUL. I hate that it was so overshadowed by Private Ryan. A lot of people missed out on a great movie, I think.

To begin with, I usually do not cry because of a touching movie. Usually. But there are some movies that almost made me cry.

Oh god. I have to constantly fight myself from crying during sad movies! I try to avoid them, but sometimes they slip past my radar... one of my favorites was kitchen stories.. found it on netflix and boy was it good. I'm still avoiding when the wind blows, the description of that one gets me all teary eyed. I know this is about movies, but I wanted to throw in some sad tv episodes, too. Hope it's no biggie. The ds9 episode, the visitor.... omg. :icon_cry2:... t'pol and tripps relationship in enterprise always gets me too. aghh. And the last episode of ds9, with Odo and Kira... so freakin' sad.

I'm going to go with the most recent film I seen that made me cry and that was "The Odd Life of Timothy Green". I didn't blubber or anything but I shed a few tears.

All of them. Yes I'm serious. I either start crying cause it's sad or I start crying cause it's happy or I start crying because music gets me going. Hope E doesn't make me worse.

Finding Neverland - at many points throughout the movie, but especially when the little boy figures out how to fly the kite.
Under the Tuscan Sun - when the carpenters finish renovating Frances' house and say goodbye - the quite, gentle carpenter cries on Frances' shoulder (gets me everytime).

If a movie doesn't leave my teary it's probably not one I wanted to see. Cried through most of the last half (and much of the first) of Les Miz. Knew I would, so I made sure my pockets were filled with Kleenex. But I cried a lot during Contact, Top Gun, We Are Marshall (even though I hate football)... the list is practically endless.

Whhhhuuuuuttt? Predators was awesome! *spoiler coming up* The whole story of criminals being dropped onto a planet that is a training ground for the Preds is at least original (originality is rare these days). You girls have no taste...NO TASTE in films, lol.

The scene in Better Than Chocolate, roughly an hour in, when Judy (pre-op transwoman) is attacked in the bathroom by a butch woman who is what I think of whenever I read Cathy Brennan's blogs.

I tend to cry pretty easily at movies. "Up" was particularly bad for me. I remember being in tears every ten minutes or so.

The first and last 10 minutes of that film are beautiful and heart-breaking.

What i can remember off the top off my head, Lion King, Iron Giant, Adaption and Finding Nemo.
I know right? it was like (imo) Heath was so great in Dark Knight Returns and then Christian Bale opens his mouth and kinda kills the mood lol.

One movie which gets the waterworks going is 'Monster' with Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci.
The scene which gets me is the one where Selby (Christina Ricci) is leaving on the bus and you see that Lee is left on her own and that from that point forward there's not going to be a way out and her life is over.
Another isn't actually a movie but it's a screenplay which was a spin off from the Alan Bleasdale movie 'From The Black Stuff' which is about a gang of Liverpool unemployed men working as a gang to lay tarmac in the early days of Thatcherism.
The tearjerker is 'George's Last Ride' and is about the final days of George, the oldest member of the gang. played by Peter Kerrigan. George was previously a well known Liverpool union leader and shop steward for the dockers before he was blackballed, became unemployed, and started working on the gang. It was written and directed by Alan Bleasdale.
The scene which gets the waterworks going is when another member of the gang Chrissy takes George, who is dying and in poor health, out for a walk from his home in Dingle to the docks where, alone with Chrissy he dies.
Then just as you're wiping away the tears there's the funeral scenes and you see all the people coming out onto the streets to pay their last respects.
The series established a whole host of Liverpool actors such as Jean Boht, Julie Walters, Bernard Hill, Ricky Tomlinson, Gilly Coman and Paul Barber and if you have a spare couple of hours is well worth watching.

I cry as almost all movies but last night I watched "My Sister's Keeper" - cried sooo much!
For those who haven't seen it, it's about a girl with leukemia. Her parents have another girl specifically to be a cell doner to her sister.
