Have a great Christmas -- sing out loud!
Turn yuletide muzak into real music and put it front and centre where it belongs

A few weeks ago, I was in a store in downtown Victoria when I realized Christmas music was booming out from the sound system. Jolly stuff. Jingly stuff. Unrelenting joy.
"Yikes," I said to a sales clerk, "this is going to drive you nuts by Christmas."
Sure, some of it can be saccharine and shmaltzy. A new record in Britain, Once Upon A Christmas Song by comedian Peter Kay (as his ->-bleeped-<- character Geraldine McQueen) is vying to be the coveted Christmas No. 1 single. It points fun at the corniness and cliché of yuletide music. Watch it on YouTube (type in "Geraldine Christmas"). It's great fun.
