Title: Songs for us.
Post by: stephanie_craxford on July 08, 2005, 04:54:41 PM
Hello everyone,

Shelly in "Crossdresser talk - untitled topic" quoted a line from Cat Stevens to reinforce a point she was trying to make (and a good one too)  It when like this:

:In the words of Cat Stevens - take your time, think a lot"

That line is from his "Father and Son" Song on his "Tea for the Tillerman" album (Ihave them all by the way) The full verse goes like this and I really like it, but if you change a few words it becomes so applicable to the issues we talk about in these forums (well I think it can )  :) :):

It's not time to make a change, just relax take it easy.
You're still young that's your fault there's so much you have to know.
Find a (girl) settle down, if you want to you can marry,
Look at me I am old but I'm happy.
I was once like you are now and I know that it's not easy,
To be calm when you've found something going on,
But take your time, think a lot why, think of everything you've got,
For you will still be here tomorrow but your dreams may not.

Are there any other songs, verses or lines that are main stream that apply to our forums?

Songs for us,

I was listning to the radio the other day and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" was playing. I realised it would make a great song for this site.

Sail on Silver Girl,
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way

See how they shine
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

I've heard a couple of other songs I thought would be good but their names escape me at the moment.

I'm just a Girl - No Doubt

Barbie Girl - Aqua

And speaking of ch-ch-changes.  Anyone remember that rediculous Brady Bunch song.  "When it's time to change, you've got to rearrange.. somethin' somethin' somethin' somethin' Na-na-na na na na na-na na ^Na-na-na-na na"

Crap, now it's stuck in my head... again

Goodness, no, I didn't even listen to the link, I was only going by the title...  let a Mod make that choice, if they see it necessary...I can't listen to it right now so I cannot make judgement on the words... wasn't tryin' to offend , hope I didn't...

QuoteThis is actually just a link to the lyrics.  Nothing to listen to.
Ooops!  :o  OK, I read the lyrics....  well it is definitely satire...personally I don't care for the words, but you also said you didn't mean for it to be the song for Susan's, just that it reminded you of another song posted earlier....

Quotelet a Mod make that choice

It wasn't intended for anyone to make a choice. It was only intended to get people thinking and responding to music that enspired them in a TS sort of way. I am very musicaly enspired. I can think of a song for just about any occasion. Look at my last song choice. If you listen to the song it will bring tears to your eyes if you think about it in a TS context and Susan's place in the same vane. Actually it always did just more so now. I could think of a few other songs but that one just struck me. Another is, and I'm not sure about the title but: This Girl Is A Women Now also comes to mind.

Sorry if I confused anyone...when I said "let a Mod make that choice" I was only referring to Melissa's question where she asked if she ought to delete the link to the one song...so I replied with that.  Cass, there was a post a few days ago that was deleted becasue it had an inappropriate link, so I think that might be why the question of removing the song lyric link was brought up...we're tryin' not to break any rules or be offensive...   :)

Honey I hav'nt seen anything offensive. I was just trying to convey the spirit in which I started this topic. A song will be different for everyone. That's all. I still laugh everytime I think about Leigh's suggestion for "There Coming to Take me Away"

I like the last verse of this one

I love myself the way I am, there's nothing I need to change.
I'll always be the perfect me, there's nothing to rearrange.
I'm beautiful and capable, of being the best me I can.
And I love myself, just the way I am.

I love you the way you are, there's nothing you need to do.
When I feel the love inside, it's easy to love you.
Behind your fears, your rage and tears, I see your shining star.
And I love you, just the way your are.

I love the world the way it is, cause I can clearly see.
That all the things I judge are done, by people just like me.
So 'til the birth of peace on earth, that only love can bring.
I'll help it grow, by loving everything.

I love myself the way I am, and I still want to grow.
But change outside can only come, when deep inside I know.
I'm beautiful and capable, of being the best me I can.
And I love myself, just the way I am.

Was moody the other day...recalled one great song.. LINKIN PARK-Somewhere I belong

LINKIN PARK LYRICS

"Somewhere I Belong"

(When this began)
I had nothing to say
And I get lost in the nothingness inside of me
(I was confused)
And I let it all out to find
That I'm not the only person with these things in mind
(Inside of me)
But all the vacancy the words revealed
Is the only real thing that I've got left to feel
(Nothing to lose)
Just stuck/ hollow and alone
And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own

[Chorus]
I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I've held so long
(Erase all the pain till it's gone)
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm close to something real
I wanna find something I've wanted all along
Somewhere I belong

And I've got nothing to say
I can't believe I didn't fall right down on my face
(I was confused)
Looking everywhere only to find
That it's not the way I had imagined it all in my mind
(So what am I)
What do I have but negativity
'Cause I can't justify the way, everyone is looking at me
(Nothing to lose)
Nothing to gain/ hollow and alone
And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own

[Repeat Chorus]

I will never know myself until I do this on my own
And I will never feel anything else, until my wounds are healed
I will never be anything till I break away from me
I will break away, I'll find myself today

[Repeat Chorus]

I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm somewhere I belong
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm somewhere I belong
Somewhere I belong

Ozzy Osbourne - Changes

Lyrics
--------
I feel unhappy
I feel so sad
I lost the best friend
That I ever had
She was my woman
I loved her so
But it's too late now
I've let her go
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes
We shared the years
We shared each day
In love together
We found a way
But soon the world
Had its evil way
My heart was blinded
Love went astray
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes
It took so long
To realize
That I can still hear
Her last goodbyes
Now all my days
Are filled with tears
Wish I could go back
And change these years
I'm going through changes
I'm going through changes

Steph - Since you started this post w/ a Cat Stevens song, let me add another:

From the movie, "Harold And Maude"

If you want to sing out, sing out
If you want to be free, be free
There's a million things to be
You know that there are

You can be what you want
The opportunity's on
And if you find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo

Well, it can all relate to being TS -- except maybe the last line!

Yes Alexandra, "Lola"  I cannot decide whether I love or hate that song - one of those ones that irritate & grate on me yet I find myself singing it?
Last line says it all I guess,  "I'm glad I'm a man and so's Lola"   There are two meanings there, yet nobody seemed to comment on it.   Maybe its one of those things uno. "Stripes, I see no stripes, no Zebras around here"

Another Cat Stevens song (written for the movie "Harold and Maude"):

If you want to sing out, sing out
If you want to be free, be free
There's a million things you can be
You know that there are

And if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
There's a million ways to go
You know that there are

You can do what you want
The opportunity's on
And if you find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
It's easy, you only need to know

If you want to sing out, sing out
If you want to be free, be free
There's a million things you can be
You know that there are
You know that there are

Garth is my favorite entertainer of all time.

Chaunte

"We Shall Be Free"
Garth Brooks

This ain't comin' from no prophet
Just an ordinary man
When I close my eyes I see
The way this world shall be
When we all walk hand in hand

When the last child cries for a crust of bread
When the last man dies for just words that he said
When there's shelter over the poorest head
We shall be free

When the last thing we notice is the color of skin
And the first thing we look for is the beauty within
When the skies and the oceans are clean again
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud
'Cause we shall be free

When we're free to love anyone we choose
When this world's big enough for all different views
When we all can worship from our own kind of pew
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Have a little faith
Hold out
'Cause we shall be free

And when money talks for the very last time
And nobody walks a step behind
When there's only one race and that's mankind
Then we shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith, hold out
We shall be free

We shall be free
We shall be free
Stand straight, have a little faith

We shall be free

In The Shadows Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Rasmus

No sleep,
No sleep, until I'm done with finding the answer
Won't stop,
Won't stop, before I find the cure for this cancer

Sometimes, I feel like going down I'm so disconnected
Somehow, I know that I am haunted to be wanted

I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrows all my life

In the shadows

in the shadows

They say, that I must learn to kill before I can feel safe
But I, I'd rather kill myself than turn into their slave

Sometimes, I feel that I should go and play with the thunder
Somehow, I just don't wanna stay and wait for a wonder

I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrows all my life

Lately, I've been walking, walking in circles
Watching, waiting for something
Feel me, touch me, heal me
Come take me higher

I've been watching, I've been waiting
In the shadows for my time
I've been searching, I've been living
For tomorrows all my life

I've been watching
I've been waiting
I've been searching
I've been living for tomorrows

In the shadows

In the shadows

I've been waiting

Easy.

"Andi", Kansas, Drastic Measures

Andi won't dance
Andi won't sing
Andi won't play
She sits in her room, hiding away, hiding away

She hasn't a friend
They think she's a boy, they leave her alone
But what they don't know
Andi has dreams, all of her own

Yea, she wants to be a lady
Can anyone see?
That's she's trapped inside a little boy's body
She's waiting
For the dream of her life
To be a lady
That's all she wants to be

Chorus:
Andi you're not just anyone
Don't be ashamed
Open the door, don't hide away
Your dreams will awaken
Andi you're not just anyone
Don't take the blame
Though you're scared and all alone
You'll be there someday

Oh Andi, you're old enough to know
Don't ask me why
The leaves they fall down from the trees
But in the spring, they come again
Yes, they come again
Oh Andi, don't be afraid
Oh Andi

Andi can you hear me?
Will you come out on your own?

Oh the voice in the distance
Saying don't be afraid, Andi
I will make you somebody
I will make you a lady
The dream of your life
A lady, is what you will be

(Chorus)

The Road To Mandalay  Robbie Williams

Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up upon the beach

What a lovely holiday
There's nothing funny left to say

This sombre song would drain the Sun
But it won't shine until it's sung

No water running in the stream
The saddest place we've ever been

Everything I touched was golden
Everything I loved got broken
On the road to Mandalay
Every mistake I ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way

There's nothing left for you to give
The truth is all that you're left with
Twenty paces then at dawn
We will die and be reborn

I like to sleep beneath the trees
Have the Universe at one with me
Look down the barrel of a gun
And feel the Moon replace the Sun

Everything we've ever stolen
Has been lost, returned or broken
No more Dragons left to slay
Every mistake I ever made
Has been rehashed and then replayed
As I got lost along the way

Save me from drowning in the sea
Beat me up upon the beach
What a lovely holiday
There's nothing funny left to say

KITE                          U2

Something
Is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is

I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

And hardness
It sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin

I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone
Or anything at all

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know
Which way the wind will blow

Who's to know when the time has come around
Don't want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

It's somewhere I can taste the salty sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on the breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me

I'm a man
I'm not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know
Where the wind will blow

Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't want to see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

Did I waste it
Not so much I couldn't taste it
Life should be fragrant
Rooftop to the basement

The last of the rocks stars
When hip-hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
What was the big idea

This song makes me cry, I love it that much

The Go! Team, We Just Won't Be Defeated

Saaay what,
We should start somethin simple,
Gonna push this beat till it hits the top,
Then rock it, dance right till it falls,
Grab that beat, by the balls,
Stand tall, that's right, be proud'a yourself,
You could give me heat but i'd never tell,
Do somethin, uh-huh, somethin great,
If you try to stop this, you're just too late,

[Chorus]

We just won't be defeated,
We'll fight until we drop,
You can knock us all down,
Try to mute the sound,
But we'll climb back to the top,

We just won't be defeated,
We'll fight until we drop,
You can knock us all down,
Try to mute the sound,
But we'll climb right back up!

What?
We should start somethin simple,
Gonna push this beat till it hits the top,
Then rock it, dance right till it falls,
Grab that beat, by the balls,
Stand tall, that's right, be proud'a yourself,
You could give me heat, but i'd never tell,
Do somethin, uh-huh, somethin great,
If you try to stop this, you're just too late

I don't sing it much these days, but "Reflection" from Mulan is definitely one of the top body-dysmorphic songs and quite pretty.

Speaking of "Father and Son," there's a great cover of it by the Indigo Girls (unreleased) floating around on the interwebs.  Great song.

CRAIG DAVID LYRICS

"Walking Away"

I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away

sometimes some people get me wrong
when it's something I've said or done
sometimes you feel there is no fun
that's why you turn and run
but now I truly realise
some people don't wanna compromise
well I saw them with my own eyes spreading those lies
and well I don't wanna live a lie, too many sleepless nights
not mentioning the fights, I'm sorry to say lady

I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away

Well I'm so tired baby
things you say you're driving me away
whispers in the powder room baby
don't listen to the games they play
girl I thought you'd realise
I'm not like them other guys
coz I saw them with my own eyes
you should've been more wise
and well I don't wanna live a lie, too many sleepless nights
not mentioning the fights, I'm sorry to say lady

I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away from the troubles in my life
I'm walking away oh to find a better day
I'm walking away

Wildest Dreams by Iron Maiden
Here are the lyrics:

I'm gonna organize some changes in my life
I'm gonna exorcise the demons of my past
I'm gonna take the car and hit the open road
I'm feeling ready to just open up and go

And I just feel I can be anything
That all I might ever wish to be
And fantasize just what I want to be
Make my wildest dreams come true

I'm on my way
Out on my own again
I'm on my way
Out on the road again

When I remember back to how that things just used to be
And I was stuck inside a shroud of misery
I felt I'd disappeared so deep inside myself
I couldn't find a way to break away my hell

When I'm feeling down and low
I vow I'll never be the same again
I just remember what I am
And visualize just what I'm gonna be

I'm on my way
Out on my own again
I'm on my way
Out on the road again

I'm on my way
Out on my own again
I'm on my way
I'm gonna breakaway

Fates Warning - "leave the past behind"

and here we are again the door is closed behind us
and the long road lies ahead
where do we go from here

it's time to make a change
lets trace the problem to its source
no more riding the waves
on a river that's run its course

I stood at the door to a new beginning
two choices before me and I was afraid

leave the past behind
the long road lies ahead
bury your pride and say goodbye
leave the past behind

tied to a fading memory
of something lost in time
afraid to make the change
scared to leave the past behind

I stood at the door to a new beginning
the future called and frightened I turned away

leave the past behind
the long road lies ahead
close your eyes, forget the fear
leave the past behind

we stand at the door to a new beginning
two choices before us don't be afraid

leave the past behind
the long road lies ahead
close your eyes, forget the fear
leave the past behind

leave the past behind
the long road lies ahead
close your eyes, forget the fear
leave the past behind

Nightwish - "Escapist"

Who's there knocking at my window?
The Owl and the Dead Boy
This night whispers my name
All the dying children

Virgin snow beneath my feet
Painting the world in white
I tread the way and lose myself into a tale

Come hell or high water
My search will go on
Clayborn Voyage without an end

A nightingale in a golden cage
That's me locked inside reality's maze
Come someone make my heavy heart light
Come undone bring me back to life
It all starts with a lullaby

Journey homeward bound
A sound of a dolphin calling
Tearing off the mask of man
The Tower my sole guide
This is who I am
Escapist, paradise seeker
Farewell now time to fly
Out of sight, out of time, away from all lies

A nightingale in a golden cage
That's me locked inside reality's maze
Come someone make my heavy heart light
Come undone bring me back to life
It all starts with a lullaby

The one that was an inspration to me as I was coming out.

I Am Woman
By Helen Reddy

I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back an' pretend
'cause I've heard it all before
And I've been down there on the floor
No one's ever gonna keep me down again

CHORUS
Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to, I can do anything

I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman

You can bend but never break me
'cause it only serves to make me
More determined to achieve my final goal
And I come back even stronger
Not a novice any longer
'cause you've deepened the conviction in my soul

CHORUS

I am woman watch me grow
See me standing toe to toe
As I spread my lovin' arms across the land
But I'm still an embryo
With a long long way to go
Until I make my brother understand

Oh yes I am wise
But it's wisdom born of pain
Yes, I've paid the price
But look how much I gained
If I have to I can face anything
I am strong (strong)
I am invincible (invincible)
I am woman
Oh, I am woman
I am invincible
I am strong

Fidelity  ~  Regina Spektor (Begin to Hope; Bonus Track Version)

(Shake it up)

I never loved nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost in the sounds
I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind all of these words
I hear in my mind all of this music

And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart

And suppose I never met you
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you kiss me so sweet and so soft
Suppose I never ever saw you
Suppose we never ever called
Suppose I kept on singing love songs just to break my own fall
Just to break my fall
Just to break my fall
Break my fall
Break my fall

All my friends say that of course its gonna get better
Gonna get better
Better better better better
Better better better

I never love nobody fully
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost
In the sounds
I hear in my mind
All of these voices
I hear in my mind all of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my heart
Breaks my
Heart
Breaks my heart

I love that song and video! :)

Here's a song by a Transexual, not my kind of music but a good message:

I have a lot of songs that remind me of our trans struggles...

Patrick Watson - "The Great Escape"
http://www.last.fm/music/Patrick+Watson/_/The+Great+Escape (http://www.last.fm/music/Patrick+Watson/_/The+Great+Escape)

Bad day, looking for a way
Oh, looking for the great escape
Gets in his car and drives away
Far from all the things that we are
Puts on a smile and breathes it in and breathes it out
He says bye-bye, bye to all of the noise
Oh he says bye-bye bye to all of the noise

Hey child, things are looking down,
That's OK you don't need to win anyways
Don't be afraid just eat up all the gray
and it will fade away
Don't let yourself fall down

Bad day, looking for the great escape
He says bad day, looking for the great escape
On a bad day, looking for the great escape
Great escape

Arcade Fire - "My Body Is A Cage"
Arcade Fire - My body is a cage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXr3CCQPxJY#hq)

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

I'm standing on the stage
Of fear and self-doubt
It's a hollow play
But they'll clap anyway

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

Standing next to me
My mind holds the key

I'm living in an age
That calls darkness light
Though my language is dead
Still the shapes fill my head

I'm living in an age
Whose name I don't know
Though the fear keeps me moving
Still my heart beats so slow

My body is a cage
That keeps me from dancing with the one I love
But my mind holds the key

Standing next to me
My mind holds the key

My body is a . . .

My body is a cage
We take what we're given
Just because you've forgotten, that don't mean you're forgiven

I'm living in an age
Still turning in the night
But when I get to the doorway
There's no one in sight

I'm living in an age
Realizing I'm dancing
With the one I love
But my mind holds the key

You're still next to me
My mind holds the key
Set my spirit free
Set my spirit free
Set my body free
Set my body free
Woo!
Set my spirit free
Set my body free
Oh, oh
Oh, oh

Radiohead - "Nude"
http://www.last.fm/music/Radiohead/_/Nude (http://www.last.fm/music/Radiohead/_/Nude)

Don't get any big ideas
They're not going to happen

You paint yourself white
And fill up with noise
But there'll be something missing

Now that you've found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails

So don't get any big ideas
They're not going to happen

You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking

The Smashing Pumpkins - "Galapagos"
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Smashing+Pumpkins/_/Galapogos (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Smashing+Pumpkins/_/Galapogos)

Ain't it funny how we pretend we're still a child
Softly stolen under our blanket skies
And rescue me from me, and all that I believe

I won't deny the pain
I won't deny the change
And should i fall from grace here with you
Will you leave me too?

Carve out your heart for keeps in an old oak tree
and hold me for goodbyes-and whispered lullabyes
And tell me i am still
the man I'm supposed to be

I won't deny the pain
I won't deny the change
And should i fall from grace here with you
Will you leave me too?

Too late to turn back now, I'm running out of sound
And I am changing, changing
And if we died right now, this fool you love somehow
Is here with you

I won't deny the pain
I won't deny the change
And should i fall from grace here with you
Would you leave me too?

Linkin Park - Somewhere I Belong is an awesome song! And sometime back, someone posted Simple Plan - Welcome to My Life, which works well for us and introduced me to that band, so thanks to whoever you were!

And I remember that song from Harold & Maude. That was a strange movie.  :icon_blink: But good.  :D

I was listening to it today, I think this song works for us:

3 Doors Down - The Champion In Me (Lyrics below)
The champion in me - 3 Doors Down ~(Full Song) ~ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vda7VV870RM&feature=related#noexternalembed-lq-hq)

Who said that mountain's too high?
Who said that ocean's to wide?
I've heard our new beginning started with an end.
Watch this journey I take,
Turn into something I make.
But please watch closely,
You may not see this again.

*Cause I know why,
I was born to be this way.
Everyday I try,
And I'll do everything that it takes,
To become the one I've always wanted to be.
Watch right now and you will see,
The Champion in Me.

The Champion in Me.

When the others cower,
I'm in my finest hour.
For we are champions,
Created by design.
While I remember falling,
I hear these dreams keep calling.
I've worked so hard, so long,
I'm taking what is mine.

Repeat *
The Champion...
The Champion in me.
The Champion...
The Champion...
The Champion...
We are Champions.

Repeat *
Yeah,
The Champion!
There's a Champion in Me.
