- HRT- off and on for 8 years, all on the last 1.5. No more see-sawing for me.
- "full time" outside of work: 9 months.
- "full time" *cough*, "100% full time", including work: in 6 weeks!
- GRS Projected: January 2010
Voice is still "atrocious" but working heavy on it. 90% of unwanted hair has been fried, zapped, plucked, lasered and/or electrocuted in the most horrid and painful of ways.

First time out en femme: Oct 2005
First laser session: Jan 2006 with a further 160hrs electrolysis to date
Hormones: Aug. 2006 and started living part time (most everywhere except work)
FFS: July 2008
Name change, new passport and 100% full time: November 2008
Still remain to decide whether I should tidy up the last 'bits and pieces'.

I'm on hormones, have a therapist. I've also had FFS, a BA and I live full time as what I am, a woman. As my signature reads, my GRS is scheduled for May 19, 2009 in exactly 3 months 2 weeks & 4 days from now.

I voted living full-time - about a year on HRT and about 6 months FT now, though I don't know if I could technically be considered in my RLE yet since I wo and option haven't managed to secure a job. So say somewhere between option two option three.

Full time and RLE dont really mix... full time is what you do... RLE is a stage of assesment when you are FT, usually folk go ft at th start... doesnt mean all ft is rle... ive been ft 2 years and no rle yet.... its no biggie, well no, it is, i want the damn vagina! but rle doesnt make ft better, ft is just living your life.... in some ways, its as good as it gets lol.

Sorry, I'm probably being dumb, but isn't transitioning and then living, presenting and functioning full time in the gender you believe yourself to be a RLE regardless of whether or not your ultimate goal is surgery?

RLE is a period of psycological evauation, therapy, and support as a reinforcement for usually, the persons first year full time. Its a period of trial and error to see if they are suitable to live in the desired role.
Are you saying we are assessed for life?
Full time, is just being you... Get over the names, and the definitions, but you arent going to have a shrink down your neck forever. Sometimes you need to stand up alone and be counted. Be what you did all this for... Isnt that the point? If you live every day as if it were RLE, you're living for someone else.

Very good point, Starbuck. I am full time and it is for me. It is my Real Life Experience. Experiencing life as a woman, finally. And it has nothing to do with my therapist wanting or needing it. I am working towards my letters and SRS. And that is also for me.
I would rather die as the woman I am now, than the male I was. I am so much happier now with life and with myself. And that is the Real Life Experience. Everyday is a joy to wake up a woman. There are days that are a royal pain, but it is a royal pain as a woman.
No matter what happens for now on, it is as a woman.

Ahhh I see your point. Maybe RLE is a bigger deal, involving more supervision and analysis, your side of the pond than it does here. I get the impression that here if you can 'do your time', which incidentally is usually at least 2 years within the NHS, and answer your shrinks' questions 'correctly', which isn't a problem as, by the time of your appointment, you'll have been well rehearsed by any number of other girls who've already been through the mill, you will, if you want, you'll get your referrals for surgery. Unless you go private and pay for it, when you actually get your surgery done depends on budgets and local funding priorities and waiting lists tend to be either long or very long.

Its not just surgical waits that are long... so is therapy.. ive 3 years left to wait of 6 >>

Sorry, don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way suggesting I approve of coaching. But it does go on, and I'm sure you know it does. Quite frankly, if someone is determined to 'fool' the system they probably will if they have more than three brain cells and aren't an obvious basket case. But at the end of the day who are they 'fooling' but themselves. For myself I have never had any coaching, but I suppose that accounts for the fact that upon being asked by my specialist, within a day or two of transitioning, whether I wanted SRS I answered that as things stood the best argument I could come up with in favour was that my skirts would hang better and I could wear tighter jeans. As I feared, he didn't consider my reasoning sufficiently persuasive to offer me an immediate referral.......... now if I'd been properly coached...who knows? ;)

Sorry for suggesting that, i just hate the practice....
As for the referal business, yeah, it can be a bitch, but its all personal at the end of the day... people need to be honest to themselves if they want to be taken seriously. Lie, and you're worth nothing.

I haven't started any hormones or anything really at all but dressing in my clothes instead of "my" clothes when around the house.
I have set up an appointment to see a therapist later this month, now that I have my insurance stuff taken care of ^.^;;
Still working on telling my mother though....nothing will really happen until I'm honest with her, since I still live in her house.

And shame on you for suggesting that..... Im sorry, but 'coaching' people to answer therapy questions is impropper, and iresponsible. If someone is truely transgender, they ought to be able to answer them correctly alone!
As I feared, he didn't consider my reasoning sufficiently persuasive to offer me an immediate referral.......... now if I'd been properly coached...who knows? ;)
Hey Sis don't worry if you can couch someone and save them tons of money from rip off therapist then i am all for it..
I'd have to disagree. If someone wants to fast track themselves to a surgical referral by using someone else's answers to the questions posed by their shrink that's a matter for them as will be the consequences of any inappropriate and irreversible surgery which may follow, but personally I wouldn't want to be a party, however remotely, to the deception.

I worry that you are serious....
My friend Jess was telling me in Thailand that there are m2fs getting srs, then going back to live as males.... People turning up, NO therapy, not even OUT.... one person, came, without telling thier wife, got srs, and hasnt told them.... they BOUGHT thier referals... coaching is literally as bad as that....
Therapy is to make sure this is the right choice, not something that we think we need, because lets face it, not everyone is as they feel, and if we can be saved from a mistake, all the better. Hey, if you are genuine, why worry?
As for ripoffs.... Try UK private therapy... its atleast 200-300$ a hour...

I've also heard these stories and, I'd agree, some are truly mind boggling. But ultimately, it's very difficult to save people from themselves if they're sufficiently determined, disillusional and psychotic and when there are a few surgeons who are prepared to play along with them and reinterpret the rules for the sake of another fee.

Just for the record.... I have been lucky enough to get an excellent UK therapist in London
for $90 an hour, but it's still a lot of money to find on a regular basis when you add in

I started transition 17 mths ago, was approved for HRT 15 mths ago,
now I have both letters for surgery but no $$ to pay for it.
My req. RLE I guess wasn't an issue. I always dressed female at appts.
and made home videos of my daily life even when in male mode for her
when she gave me her letter she said she was convinced that my quality of
life would improve after transition,
the cost burdened me, between her visits, the additional psychiatrist's visits
for the second letter
and the initial endo visits, add in cost of living. I was unable to start saving for my
surgery until recently and I don't have to pay for endo visits now that my GP writes
the scripts but I do have to pay for all the meds I take. I would like to be FT by now
but I struggle with the whole pre-op thing in my head, which make self acceptance
even harder for me. Lately that is changing though, and I just may go FT sooner than later.

Oh I certainly know how lucky I am as I have loads of T friends battling the system. I just couldn't have gone through the whole NHS process, as early on I wouldn't have felt in a position to make the sort of commitment that I feel comfortable making now, and consequently my life would have been an infinitely poorer thing.

irl, I haven't started anything. and I probably won't be able to start anything for a while.
But online, I'm a fullfledged male. I've had boyfriends and such as a male, and even after I let them know I'm female irl(when I feel guilty about lying to someone I <3), they tell me I'm very convincing. lol. the most used 'rating' has been "I thought you were just a girly gay guy"

HRT for 3 years. Full time for 4. In therapy right now, but not for anything transgender related. $8 an hour. But then I'm super duper poor and they do a sliding scale.
Not really working toward any surgeries right now, so I consider my transition to be done.

I wish in the polls section it would say where the poll was posted... because I'm pretty sure this was posted on the MtF boards... I think? If not I'm assuming Vaginoplasty would be SRS or GRS or something.
Either way
Full time: 13 months
Testosterone: 1 month
Top Surgery (what us FtMs have to do to get the M on our paperwork): 2 months away.
So pretty soon I'll be done with the basics, but the T needs some time to do it's magic. I'll probably have a hysto and a possibly (not sure?) a meta at some point.

I love how this is in general discussion but is clearly MTF-only.

In all seriousness though, it grinds my gears that MtF's (and crossdressers/drag queens) seem to be the public perception of 'transsexual'.
Polls, surveys, news articles, studdies...FtM's seem to get ignored.
Unless they are giving birth, that is...

Hi Vexing, hun, grind my gears, sheeeeeesh that's putting it lightly. I believe I already striped a few gears over that topic and I am surprised I never got my pinkies slapped for it. Fortunately maybe no one heard the House Mouse before "ROARRRRR!!!"

Nonsense, if they crash a trolley car that will get coverage too.

I am annoyed at the general public ignorance around the actual face of transpeople as well. It's annoying. I was telling someone that I was having surgery and they just assumed I was going to Colorado and getting a penis. A) FtMs don't have famous surgeons in CO B) getting a dick isn't usually the first surgery an FtM considers, if it's ever even considered seriously.
Plus, I hate that there's so little (and by little I mean nearly none) scientific coverage of FtMs and other female-bodied/female-born/whatever trans people.

Bowers does FTM surgeries-- and she was on Tyra!
As for FTM invisibility, I'm all for it. At the beginning of my transition it was a bit dismaying, but that ended quickly as i realized the concept of trans 'community' is mostly a farce. As far as I'm concerned, educate the medical community and keep the rest of the planet in the dark. I enjoy my life as a man, not as a self-created man, less than a man, other than a man or not a real man.

Started HRT March 10, just stumbling my way through this journey. I feel like I am on the right path but as we all do in this journey of life have so much anxiety. It has been a long time coming and definitely a long trek ahead with many trials and tribulations. One I am excited and hesitant at the same time to endeavor on. But I will always press onward as it there is no time to look back. It's now or never.
