Title: Premature Remakes.
Post by: klodefm42 on February 02, 2009, 06:05:41 PM
I read the other day that The Crow is going to be remade! One remake that took me by surprise was my bloody valentine! I didnt even know it was being remade till it was remade  :icon_poke:   Then there was the carbo copy remake of Funny Games and its knock off The Strangers. Im gonna go out on a limb and ask to any one who reads this: Has there been a foreign film you've seen that has been remade if not totally ripped off? No J-Horror or asian horror. That stuff's been in the public eye since the start of this decade.

I saw they've remade Friday the 13th. I really didn't think it was that old. (And yes, it is foreign... I'm British) ;)

I can't believe they made a sequel to the remake of the pink panther.

I don't like remakes, I especially don't like remakes of great classic films. They're classics because they already had everything to make a great film. The only reason they'd make a remake of it is to mooch off of the original film's success.

There are remakes that are better, but Steve Martin is no Peter Sellers, though I think he is doing it as an homage to the real master.

why spend a whole film budget on homage?

He asked him why he wasn't funny anymore.

I liked Dennis Pennis...also asked Demi Moore that if it was not gratuitus and tastefully done, she would keep her clothes on for a movie.

They're remaking The Crow?! Sacrilege! I protest! That's one of the greatest movies ever!!! Screw that! I will boycott! I will sue! Nooooooooooooooooo!

Geeee. Was good to get that out of the system.  ;D

Sigh. Cash-cow for a new generation of goth-kiddies.

Okay, answering the Original Question:

Well, I'm South African so pretty-much everything except "The Gods Must be Crazy" and "Leon Schuster" movies are foreign, but something I find intensely annoying are Bollywood remakes of Hollywood blockbusters.

Points in case:

Back to the Future (http://www.filmjunk.com/2009/01/05/bollywoods-back-to-the-future-remake-action-replay-starring-akshay-kumar/")

And it's not just movies:

top 5 best bollywood remakes (http://www.justforlaughs.com/fun/top-5-best-bollywood-remakes)

Too bad the Thriller vid doesn't work anymore.

When Bollywood come up with their own stories, the occasional non-musical serious ones anyway, the make really good films, but India is supposed to be all about Innovation. China is where you're supposed to go for rip-offs! ;)

Mina.

Next up to be remade, A Nightmare on Elm Street. It depends on the turn out for the Remake of Friday the 13th. Plus this Danish film, Room 205 is being remade in the states. Has any one seen that film by the way, Room 205?
