I'm just wondering what other guys have used for treatment of their scars after surgery. Some people have told me vitamin e oil. Some people have said mederma. Others say don't bother.

I used bio-oil on scars I have (not really big ones like from surgery though) and it seemed to help them. Made them fade a lot faster

I've used Mederma on self injury scars, works very well, seems pricey but a small tube actually lasts longer than you expect. You do need to be routine with how often you use it, two or three times a day is best, that generally applies to all scar removal creams, so if you're not diligent, nothing is going to work quite well for you.

I sprung for the Kelo-Cote but it's far too soon to know if it's doing anything.

I'd definitely second the bio-oil. It works really well. Massage the scarred skin when you apply it. That helps alot to increase the suppleness and stuff.

I used Bio Oil originally but have been told Vitamin E Cream is just as good and much cheaper. I'm not using anything at the moment and the scars seem to be fading fine on their own.
You may find this Utube link interesting though:-

The guys voice can be a bit straining but I think it's interesting what he says about Pile Cream being very good at scar reduction.
I hope it is ok to put links to Utube on this forum, if not can a mod remove it please.

If you are unlucky enough to still have a raised redish scar after 6 months plus it may well be "keloid" (over active regrowth). If the area surrounding the scar is flat, then it may be worth trying a silicone scar revision patch.
This stuff goes under a variety of trade names, and is usually a clear silicone sheet about 6 inches square and 1/8th inch thick. You cut it to size and it has an adhesive on one side that sticks to your skin. The patch is washable and one piece lasts about a month of daily use. Typical cost for the basic sheet is £20 or $30
Having the slicone in close proximity to your skin both flattens the scar and sigificantly reduces redness permanenty.
Please note that this is for scars where the the basic healing is complete, and not for new scars.

I've been told Coca Butter but haven't really tried it on any healing scars.
