Right now I'm a little obsessed with:
Mozart - 12 Variations on Ah, vous derai je, Maman (love...)
- Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major
Rachmaninoff - Piano Concerto 2 (of course)
- Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
Stravinsky - Firebird Suite
Also, there is a Japanese drama called "Nodame Cantabile" that is centered around music students and features a great deal of wonderful classical music. It got me back into it. :D

I got lots of great classical, jazz, folk, world etc from the following website www.musicalheritagesociety.com (//http://)
When I signed up the offer was something along the lines of 5CDs for $5.
Excellent sales and clearance items in the monthly catalog.
Downside is the "club" is a featured selection based club, so if you can remember to return the card or login each month its IMO a site worth checking into.

The very cold and gray weather like winter has really set in has given me a powerful hankerin' for some Chopin. I have four sets by different piano players including Alicia del la Rocha, Horowitz (of course, how could you not), Ivan Moravec (the guy that the Chopin lovers really love) and Krystian Zimerman (my fav). Once I start playing the Chopin it can go on for days, the nocturnes into the mazurkas, waltzes, polonaises and études. His output was mighty and the depth of his emotion truly limitless. Yet despite the intense emotion (or perhaps because of it) the beauty of the notes and spaces between the notes is so simple and delicate.

What happens when you take a group of very talented musicians, give them four weeks to learn a completely different instrument (members of the string section could not pick another string instrument) and have them play Canon in D?

Frédéric Chopin - Prelude in E-Minor (op.28 no. 15)
Nicknamed the "Raindrop" Prelude, is the longest of the twenty-four.
The main melody is repeated three times; the melody in the middle,
however, is much more dark and dramatic. The key signature switches
between D-flat major and C-sharp minor (its parallel minor).

Always liked the John Williams version of Asturias by Isaac Albeniz. It's a lot faster than the Segovia, so here is both, you make the call. P.S. Tell the Doors to credit this right on Waiting for the Sun, they sure didn't write it.

Beethoven Symphony no. 9: Ode an die Freude (ode to joy)
A wonderful piece about tolerance and friendship. It is no surprise it is the current anthem of the European Union.
A short styled version:
Fischerchor - Freude schöner Götterfunken 2004 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqtZ_c3cyhE#)
Freude, schöner Götterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische, dein Heiligtum!
Deine Zauber binden wieder,
Was die Mode streng geteilt;
Alle Menschen werden Brüder,
Wo dein sanfter Flügel weilt.
My rough translation (German and English are not my native languages):
Joy, devine spark,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter drunk with fire.
Heavenly, your sacred shrine,
Your magic brings together,
That what is separated by culture.
All men become brothers,
Under your gentle wings.

I have an obsession with the music of Shostakovich. I'm glad to see some have already posted him here. :)
I attached a performance of his 8th string quartet that I found to be very well done. This is probably my favorite piece that he ever wrote. It is depressing, but the emotion within it is so palpable that you simply can't ignore how impressive it is. Plus, I love all the stories surrounding the piece.

That string quartet is exactly what came to mind when you mentioned Shostakovich, apparently he started weeping when he first heard it performed (obviously in Beethoven's case this would have been somewhat a difficulty). It is very deep. I've only really appreciated Haydn and Beethoven in regards to string quartets other than Shostakovich, so far. Now's an opportunity for me to post a Beethoven string quartet! Wow, there are so many to choose from...literally the whole of the last 4 ones he did, 'the late string quartets', no.s 13, 14, 15, 16 are really excellent. Here's a particularly poignant piece:
