This season of MTV's Real World brings many ideologies and discourses around gender and sexuality to the forefront. It's interesting to see how deliberately the producers of the Real World cast the housemates with specific "roles" to fill. There is almost always someone who is queer, a person of color, and someone who just doesn't quite fit in the norm. The most recent episode of the Real World is titled "The Battle of the Sexes". Of course, this is deliberately contradictory to Katelynn's position as a transgendered women and JD as a gay man.
