Hi Guys,
I am scheduled next week (3/5) for my consult for top surgery and I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what questions to ask. I could think of a couple but I might as well get some pointers from you.

Do you know whether you definitely want a certain surgery (i.e. keyhole or double-incision)? If not, you'd definitely want to ask which of these would suit your body type and breast size. In general, keyhole is for those with smaller breasts. Some surgeons do a great job, and some surgeons do a crappy one - it's a bit of a hit and miss. Double incision is a catch-all, and usually works with any body type, but it leaves more scarring.
Another topic might be pain management. Do you react well or badly to any specific pain meds? You might want to ask them to prescribe something specific that has worked for you in the past. My surgeon prescribed me two different meds in case I didn't like the side effects of one or the other. I found that Demerol worked better than Vicodin (which made me woozy), so this was all I took during my recovery, so I could have saved some money there if I'd known. This is probably something you'd want to ask a little further down the line, but it's worth bringing up.
Practically speaking, you might also want to look into accomodation if you're from out of town. Usually, surgeons will be able to give you a list of local hotels and their prices - ask for it.

Thanks Andrew! I would probably have DI. Yes, I would certainly want to ask about pain management. Anyway, I am going to consult with Dr. Christine Mcginn from PA.

Congrats on the appointment. However a good surgeon should tell you everything there is to know about the surgery. Then your questions can arise from there.
