Title: Worst Muzak Renditions
Post by: Constance on March 06, 2009, 05:16:11 PM
I was in a store the other day and heard a muzak rendition of "Wildest Dreams" by the Moody Blues. If memory serves, that song was pretty mellow to begin with.

So, my fellow boardmates, which songs have you heard completely ruined by being muzak-ified?

Sarah Brightman ruining Queen's "Who Wants to Live Forever"

I also have an incredibly cheesy lounge/big band version of "Purple Haze"  done by The Roto Router Good Time Christmas Band.  It's so hilariously awful it's wonderful.  ;D

Paul Anka - Rock Swings

oh. my. god.  It's not all bad, but the world never needed 'swing' versions of "Jump", "Love Cats", or "Tears in Heaven" (<--WHY!!!?)...actually, most of that album is awful.

i always enjoyed this version more when i was little. i think i still do. he did a great velvet underground medley too.

the worst cover i've ever heard was the version of "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" from shrek. my god it is the ->-bleeped-<-est, worst, blandest most insipid cover of a great song I've ever heard.
Just looked it up, the guy was called pete yorn, he's named pretty right.

"Another Brick In The Wall - Part 2" by Pink Floyd. I heard the muzak version of it when I worked in a K-Mart. I think I was 17 so it's been a while. A muzak version of "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas also comes to mind.

Oh, the humanity!!!

I've heard Bob Dylan protest songs in Muzak at a mall.  'Nuff said.

I don't know who did it, but I heard a muzak version of "Hey Jude" when I was at Wendy's one time.

Thanks Jaimey
I was trying to eat my dinner and I was stupid enought to hit the Paul Anka button. I din't stay :D.
Were there any survivors? Or did all the " musicians" self emolate?

The original Hey Jude is Wonderful. I was living in Liverpool as the Beatles began. Amazing times.

Ah Nostalgia

Absolutely hate it ;D

A hex upon you!  Although Hey Jude wasn't one of The Beatle's better songs.  I like the "na na na na na na na" part near the end though.

:icon_evil_laugh:  Share the evil.

You didn't love it?  That cd came out while I was working in a bookstore and it was on our store play list.  Listen to it long enough and you'll bleed from the ears...if you think "Jump" is bad...he also covered "Love Cats" and "Tears in Heaven".  Think about that and keep your dinner down.  >:-)

It's actually rather droll...aw...it's not on youtube...but here's "Tears In Heaven"...no one should be allowed to sing this song except Eric Clapton...

Heck, I'm not even that happy about Eric singing it.  Way too sappy.

But hey, try this - considered by many the worst cover ever in the history of covers.

And hey, I'm not responsible if you throw up a little.  Or even a lot.

Celine Dion - You Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FONt47Z0KZg#lq-lq2-hq)

And, if that were not bad enough, there is a worst version.

Shania Twain - You Shook Me All Night Long (Live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHtuGMHWAf0&feature=related#lq-lq2-hq)

But, just so you don't hate me forever, here is the real deal, AC/DC with Bon Scott, who died of drinking in the back of a limo, the real rock and roll (and Hank Williams too) way to go.

AC/DC - Its A Long Way To The Top If Ya Wanna Rock And Roll (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1iR2Wi3u5o#normal)

ugh...sweet jesus.  Perhaps those two vids should be placed in a new thread..."Wanna Lose Weight? Songs That Will Make You Vomit".

I don't care for it either, but for sentimental reasons, I don't mind him singing it.

I took the challenge.

I lasted one bar of PA, I was puking during his intro. Lord he is so sincere.
I just felt soooo good.  I'm trying not to be negative of people, but PA is how old? He is looking in the video as if he has been injected with embalming fluid. I don't mean this in a bitchy way, he is just so well preserved ;D

Shaina version of AC/CD, but I'm sure she said EC-DC. Is so good, I'm still rocking back and forward over the toilet with enjoyment.

One I really like is Rolf Harris playing Stairway to Heaven. I'm not all that good on You tube etc can one of you find it. I'm all out of sick bags but will have more tomorrow.

This is a fun thread.

Has the Vatican Choir released their version of Welcome to the Jungle? or even Shaina or Celione.

Yours in nausea

Hey, while we're at it, why don't we discuss Pat Boone's "heavy metal" album?

Well Ms. Twain was married to the guy who produced Back in Black, at least until she found out why his nickname was "mutt."

I think the worst thing I've ever heard was Pat Boone performing "Ain't That a Shame."

Don't even go there.

I'm very fond of Shirley Bassey, but I was taken aback by her rendition of "Light My Fire."

I can forgive Shirley, but Pat is the spawn of the devil anyway.

OMG...I can't even believe you just said that!!!  On VH1, I once saw a show where a group of older classical singers sang "Welcome to the Jungle".  They were pleasantly surprised at how difficult it was.

Pat Boone...*sigh*  He uses his own name as a curse word.  "Oh, Boone!"  Remember his "metal" phase?

I was in a Chinese restaurant the other day, and after a while I realized that I was listening to various rock classics done on Chinese instruments.  It was actually kind of interesting ...

Hey, a good song is a good song, no matter in what style it's played.  It just that Muzak is a special breed of music, breed to suck.  Really.
