There Is No Community

Sigh.  So much for disappearing without fanfare.  The whole debate about threats and how to rationalize it away when it's a trans person making it just won't die.

To recap, this specific furor started at The Bilerico Project (you might have to wait until late Friday to click the link, as DOS attacks have killed their server and it needs to be replaced), when a comment made on a guest post was deleted and pointed out in a new post as unacceptable behaviour.  Bil probably didn't help the matter much in the beginning by making it sound like he was turning things over to the authorities then and there, when what he'd meant was that he would do so if a situation arose from the threat that would require it.  Clarifying that matter hasn't helped, though, and the overwhelming rage that's being directed at the blog in the forms of flamewars and denial of service attacks (I'm not stupid) can be summed up in a few short points (paraphrased below):

1) "Everyone should have known that this was not a real threat, because everyone should have recognized it as a mere expression of frustration and anger and maybe makes historical references, and because people know the person who made the threat and she wouldn't carry it out, and DIAF doesn't mean that someone is coming after you with the jug of kerosene and a torch."
