I don't know if it is silly but - some of us (those that transit)choose their first name themself. And for a long time i also wished I could select my last name too
(the surname - lol, I had to wiki for this word)
What - if you care about it - would be the surname you fancy the most?
In my case , it would be Hasenöhrl ^^ This is like austrian for Bunny-ear and... since my nick name is... well ... the context its obvious, isnt it :)

My alias is John Adrian Emonds. My friends used to call me "Johnny Emo", so I expanded it to Johnathan Emonds. I don't plan to change my real surname, but Emonds works on the 'net and as a nickname.

I'm happy with my birth names. I was given an unusual female first name and it combines well with my family name which is short and quite common in Spain.
Not that keen on the whole family name business and the way that in the anglo-saxon world the wife takes the husband's family name. I prefer either how it is in Italy where the wife stays with her own family name or in Indonesia where family names are uncommon and all names are just names.

Last names in Iceland are done differently than in most western countries. We don't do "family" names.
We do son-of or daughter-of.
So ovbiously, I want to change my last name from Jónsdóttir (Daughter of Jón) to Jónsson (Son of Jón).

Oh, I fully intend on changing my last name, if I can. But for me it's because I want to be free from my family. I'm going with "Jenkins". Even if I can't or don't change it legally, it's going to be my pen name.

Since my family abandoned me when i transitioned, I would love to ditch the name, but I've been unable to think what to change it to. :-\

Why Jenkins?
It's sort of a nod to Diana Wynne Jones for Howl's Moving Castle...that and I just like the sound of it.
Doveton...that also has a nice ring to it. Very nice!

Gee another thread I can actually post to because I speak from experience. I changed everything, first, middle and last. I changes the last out of respect for my parents and family.

I hate how the wife always takes the name, too. I have only known two married women who don't take their husbands last name, including my mother. And even in families where the mother doesn't change her name, the children always get the fathers name. I'm going to change my last name to a hyphenated combination of both my parent's last names, but I can't decide which order would sound better.

I chose to keep my last name as it I didn't want to have to pick a last name as finding a first one was hard enough! :P
