Title: Learning self dense, who else?

I am not sure how common it is but, I think learning self defense should be any part of a female or transgender, transsexual or any in-between's priority during transition.
I am not preaching it SHOULD be done, but I wonder if anyone considers the logic of potentially putting yourself at risk of being in danger living with many who do not agree with you and can be dangerous should be common sense.
Would it not be a wise idea to start issuing self defense so that people can protect themselves more?
I do not want to make a controversial topic or make a stand, I just want to ask a lot of you, like me, a transgender, would you take self defense to help protect yourself or hope to not die due to a secret unraveling a potential death?
If someone assaults you and then you take self defense, would it not be wiser to start taking it now?
What are your opinions?

Sounds like a good idea to me.
Unfortunately, though, any sort of self-defence class (martial arts, boxing, etc) is ridiculously expensive where I live.

Self defense training is good for anyone. There are just to many wackos out there. And as the economy tanks deeper, there will be a lot of desperate people out there.

My step dad (a Viet Nam vet.) started teaching me Tae Kwan Do and Jujitsu (jungle warfare stuff) when I was in high school. I've also studied others as well. This training has come in handy at various times, even just a week ago

A long time ago in a galaxy far away, I was a black belt in kempo, back when I was trying to prove that I was a normal guy and overcompensating. But I never was good at sparing as I did not want to hurt anyone.. IE I spared like a girl.... gee go figure.
Running or walking away is always the first defense.

My grandfather always told me that it takes more of a man...ah woman.... to walk away from a fight than to fight it.

Hubby teaching me Tai Kwon Do, and my ability to "fake" surrender convincingly, and my lack of whatever it is that stops people from wanting to bite a chunk out of an assailant,.. I think I'm alright.
