Title: It's 2:30 am and I'm wide awake...
Post by: Lutin on April 24, 2009, 11:58:14 AM
OK, as the title says, I'm once again wide awake in the wee hours. :icon_bored: ::)

Every day I think/say to myself that I will *not* have multiple cups/cans of coffee/Red Bull &c., and certainly absolutely definitely not in the evening, but then every morning at 3 am...

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that I work in the evenings - on computers - so by the time I get home after spending four hours staring at a screen, it feels like midday again.

At the moment, to distract myself from the horror of the sea of "Oh wow, I'd been looking for tha-SH*TSPIDER!" surrounding my bed, I'm writing a piece of music, considering raiding the kitchen for some horrible microwaveable cheap yummy fish, and thinking about how I could be using this time profitably to write my Spanish essay, but really can't be ar*ed.

Well...that's pretty much the rant. Anyone else care to vent their spleen/regale the company of their midnightly escapades?

Will xox ;D

Well as someone who routinely gets off work well past midnight I can relate to some of it.  I hate it when I get off and there is nowhere to go, all the bars are closed, no stores open.  And here my 3am, is most people 5pm.  You just have to find a way to adjust, for me, in part I do a lot of night photography.

I have no recognizable sleep schedule.  It causes lots of problems.  They've actually done studies that show that people who work on computers constantly tend to get messed up sleeping habits because the light from the monitors somehow messed with your circadian rhythm and whatnot.

I work very irregular hours on  irregular days.  Its not uncommon for me to put in a 40 hour week in three days.  Add then take four days off.  At least for me, I try to - when I can - stick to a normal (for theater) routine on my off days, and that tends to help.

I'm up right now too. When you're unemployed, the Man can't tell you when to get up in the morning. Take THAT society.

Yeah and I have to go to bed because the man is telling me I have to be up at the crack of noon for a 2:00pm call.

Do you think if I turn off the monitor that will help make me sleepy?

Actually I was dead asleep until the biker bar down the street cranked up the volume of the band.  Silly me had the windows open.  It's the first time this season I could do that and it's such a gorgeous night.  But I guess it's more important to crank up the volume so loud that people over a 1/4 mile away wake up from the noise.  If they don't how will the patrons only a few feet away hear their music?

But it's past 2AM now and all the Harleys with their modified mufflers have ripped through our neighborhood for the evening so I think I can open the windows again.  Now all I have to do is figure out where these mopes live so I can crank up my lawn mower in front of their house around 5AM.

Now that I've vented, maybe I can go to sleep.  Anyone have an Ambien?

Julie

I'd rather be fried from lack of sleep than take an Ambien.  That stuff is scary!

But no, the monitor light thing comes from habitual use and won't change... overnight :P.

Sleep is the bane of my existence. I love it, but I can never seem to get enough! No matter what time I go to bed I always wake up at about 6:15 the next morning, usually whilst waking up about three or four times during the night. The rest of the time I just lie awake worrying - "my room's a mess, I should really clean it up." "MY LAPTOP'S SCRATCHED" "I CAN'T TAKE CARE OF MY STUFF" "SHOULD I HAVE SAID THAT?" "Why am I such an idiot?" "I need to email her tomorrow and apologise!"

My parents call me a reverse teenager - I go to bed really early, get up even earlier and can't stand lying in, even on Sundays... we live in a quiet little village, so it's full of 60+ year olds who go to bed no later than 8.30 and are up with the birdies. I'm proud to admit I'm amongst them!
