A judge reinstated a transgender art teacher from Media, Delaware County, who had been fired after undergoing a sex-change operation.
U.S. District Judge Donald Van Artsdalen restored Jenell Ashlie, 27, to her position May 9 as a teacher in the Chester-Upland school district, but on a suspended status.
Van Artsdalen ordered the district to pay Ashlie $10,000 in back pay and schedule an employment hearing for within 30 days of the ruling.

The word "reinstated" seems to be a misreading of the article. The judge split the baby and gave the transwoman about a third. The judge only ordered the school district to give the transwoman the same due process it would give another teacher before firing them, and awarded her about 1/3 of her backpay. The transwoman then had to settle for her backpay for this year and no job.
That's hardly a reinstatement.

The judge ordered $10k in back pay and an employment hearing, which she was entitled to.
She declined the employment hearing in exchange for $35k believing they would still fire her. Either she messed up, or did not want to go back. Most likely the latter, would you?
Trans or not, the district screwed up by not giving her an employment review before firing her. That was all the judge dealt with.
She walked away with $45k.
