Transgeneration is a 2005 documentary by filmmaker Jeremy Simmons that spent a year following the lives of transgender students Gabbi, Raci, Lucas and TJ. It was interesting to watch them define who they are and take control of their gender identity and their lives, and was a little bittersweet for me personally.

I'd be curious to see a 'where are they now' feature on them, not so much Lucas since he seemed so well adjusted and family was accepting, but TJ had some major issues with his family and culture and I'm curious to see Raci and Gabbi as well. Gabbi has probably actually seen the world now, she was sort of an introvert and was only starting to come out of her shell at the end.

*edit, duh! I missed that little blurb about them being reunited.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I found all of these people irritating for various reasons (some of which, I admit, I don't even remember now). I'm glad I saw the documentary, but I wouldn't want to see it again. I was pretty bored by the end, and I kept wondering why these particular subjects were chosen.

Then again, there can't be that many trans college students who would be willing to be filmed like that. But I'm starting to think that the only kind of person I would be interested in seeing in a documentary like this one is the kind of person who wouldn't want to BE in such a documentary.

There's logic for you...
