Title: Legal name changed

Hey all, its been awhile since I posted. I dont have internet access the way I did before. I just cleared the 2nd of many milestones in my transition. My legal name is now Brianna Lee. My 2nd milestone is getting my gender marker on my license changed. I'm lucky to live in Ma. because I just have to have a form filled out by my therapist to get the gender marker changed to female. SS will be another story. they require proof of sugery before the gender marker will change with them. But if I show up at the SS office 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, I'm sure I could sweet talk them into doing it for me ( this tactic has been tried before and met with sucess ). The reason getting SS to change markers is because when a prospective employer processes my SSN, SS will send back a gender no match letter. effectively outing me.

Congrats! You're lucky, here (Alberta, Canada) you have to have GRS to get your gender marker change. And, yeah, you have to show your ID with your gender on it everytime you get a job, do your taxes, go to the doctors, get a perscription, buy smokes or a beer, even to go into a club or bar. Everyone gets to know your transsexual. After GRS, you can get the ID changed, but you can run into red tape and it's expensive.
I'm still trying to afford to get my birth certificate changed almost a year after GRS. I got my picture ID changed last year, and just a few days ago my disability insurance finally changed my gender marker. My name has been changed for three years -- you'd be surprised how often, even after a name change, I will still get mail or a call in my old name, despite several legal letters to change my name even.
