Title: 2 days till next dose - weak and lethargic?
Post by: Nero on May 05, 2009, 06:18:54 PM
hi guys.

It's 2 days until my next T dose and I'm feeling really exhausted and weak. Is this normal? or nothing to do with it?

You're low on hormones and therefore, low on vitality. I'm not on any kind of hrt, but I think that's normal.

It's normal for estrogen early on, Nero, and add really grumpy and irritable as well!! That will hold true generally for women until we tend to balance our levels and then we can miss a shot by a few days without necessarily experiencing the "Princess as Ogre Syndrome." :)

Andrew Sullivan, yep that guy, published this (http://www.nytimes.com/library/magazine/home/20000402mag-testosterone.html) a few years ago. Not everyone agrees with him but if you Google andrew sullivan on testosterone you can find his original essay that I linked above and those essays that have commented and opined on it.

Basically I thought he made a lot of sense, as at the time my experience of estrogen therapy had followed the same patterns except kinda in reverse. :)

To answer your question, my friend, I think it's prolly a very normal experience.

I haven't experienced that either.  How long are you going between shots?  I've heard that some doctors prescribe higher doses at longer intervals, which can lead to more of a roller-coaster effect.  Personally, I consider the end of the hormonal roller coaster to be one of the major advantages to going on T, so my doctor and I agreed on a weekly schedule.

I think he is talking about the effects of T Nichole, but I may have missunderstood his post.

Yep, I knew he was talking about T. I knew E wears down after 7-10 days and figured T would as well. :) Oh, well, the guys are apparently all dynamos all the time. But I knew Sullivan had talked about how he'd feel way different at the end of his shot cycle than he did in the first day after he'd taken the shot. :)

Yep, I've experienced a bit of low energy sometimes when I've had a longer time between shots. Normal, and likely, when your body gets used to it, it won't be as pronounced. Plus you've still got estrogen fighting with it, which might add to the effect.

what's your shot cycle? biweekly?  if so, try doing half your normal dose every week.  Less ups and downs make for more stable moods/energy levels.

That's what I did too, went to half dose weekly. At first, my dose was too small to split in half, but as the dose got bigger I went weekly. When I travel, sometimes I'll get a full dose before I go and not go back for two weeks.

I haven't noticed any tiredness, but my depression comes back anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days before my shot is due.

I've been on T now just over a yr - and I usually get tired when I get my shot and for a day or so afterwards while it adjusts. Different people react differently, so I wouldn't let it worry you - If you're new on T this might just be yoiur body in general reacting to all the changes

I guess I thought of it like I was a teenager - they sleep all the time too ! which is basically what we are?

Wouldn't worry so much man

You know, I've been wondering if my sleep habits have changed because I'm going through puberty again. It's weird. Anybody else seeing this phenomenon?

I did, Arch. Just starting to get back to adult habits after four years. It's definitely being a teenager again in a lot of ways.

It's hard for me to say, since my work schedule has messed up my sleep schedule so much.  But, yeah, I've been having a hard time settling down to sleep at night, and then I have trouble waking up the next day.  Same as when I was a teenager.

I used to get more tetchy/moody towards when my next shot was due rather than lethargic but I still have ovaries so presume it was due to the dreaded E taking back over again. If you are still making oestrogen too you shouldn't get lethargic as far as I know, hormone of either type in your system should prevent this.

I do know that cisgendered males using Nebido for male hypogonadism do get very lethargic when their next shot is due if the gap between shots is too wide spaced so it is possible I suppose. Best speak to your endo about this next time you see them.

Which form/brand of T are you on if you don't mind me asking nero?
