Title: Everybody is happy with my shortened hair

Several weeks ago I had my hair cut short at a hair salon near my apartment. I paid just ca. US $6 whereas I paid ca. $200 to straighten my hair several months ago. My hair now just reaches the neck.
Until now, probably more than 100 people have asked me why I suddenly had my hir cut. I replied like "because it takes too long time to dry my hair everyday", or "to bring on some change". I was a little bit surprised that so many people are interested in my hair.
On thing consistent is that everybody says I look better. First, when returning home at that day, my little daughter welcomed my shortened hair, and then my two sons. My wife too. About a week ago, I visited my dad, and he applauded my shortened hair.
At my workplace, all of females commented now I look prettier. Most of men say the same, although a few mindless guys still say I have better make my hair shorter like a typical man.
Nobody yet says that it is wasteful to loose so long hairs :o.

A couple of years ago now, five of us all cut off our ponytails and gave them to a program called "Locks of Love" which uses the hair to make wigs for kids undergoing Chemo. Matter of fact, we didn't even have to pay. Partly because of the locks of love deal, and partly because we went to an old school barber who was so damn happy to 'dehippy' us that it made his day.

Yes. The hair dresser commented that several wigs can be made by my hairs. I also felt that my neck became lighter and relieved. It was so heavy :'( I am not quite sure where my hairs went, but she implied that they can be recylced.

Tomorrow is Saturday and also the next day of Mother/Father day. I will visit my dad's home with my kids. I may have a chance to take a new photo. It's long time that I ever take a photo this year.

It's kinda odd, I spoz, since it may be counter-intuitive, but a lot of times for MTF-spectrum folks a shorter cut can actually enhance femme looks. Some of the congrats to you are no doubt people who find you now look "more like a man", but I imagine a lot of it is because you may look even more femme now than you already did. (Which was always quite femme to my eyes.)
And yep, hair weighs a lot more than a lot of folks seem to think. I'm not at all surprised you felt a huge difference. And short styles are usually a lot easier to care for.
I do, though, think I'd avoid the "old-fashioned barber" tekla mentioned!

Yeah, that was a guy thing. All of us had ponytails way past our shoulders, and someone dared us, told us we'd never do it and if we did they would buy us beer. What a fool. Bar tab that night was well over $200 for the five of us - hey, we tip very well.

Donating hair for cancer patients is cool ;) I donated mine several years ago. I wanted to do it again but was told I have too much gray now and was turned away :-\

Today I had lunch with my dad, family and sister/brother. We walked to a nearby park. It was a typical summer day. The park was crowded, but my son and brother took some photos for me.

thanks, tekla,
I do not think it is so much cute, but many people seem to think my shortened hair is neater than long hairs.
I absolutely agree with Nichole. As a M2F crossdresser, long hairs sometimes can make me look extremely masculine like Samson in the Bible. Sunglasses is the same, but I wear it to protect my eyes from UV.
Anyway, I still try to hide some masculine features of my face by hairs.
My hairs in last July:

one day after having a hair cut my mother saw me coming with shorter hair and she was nearly jumping from happiness.
well before that she was non stop me reminding me that men should have a short hair cut, and saying: you'd better cut your hair, and you'd better cut it extremely short.
well the fact is that she was happy only for a few minutes until she realized my hair cut was not that masculine ;D

Anyway, my dad said my hair looks short enough for his eyes. I guess he does not expect too much from me ;D.

Yerstday I played with my daughter at the playground in my apartment.
One little boy said like "why does your dad have so long hair?"
My daughter replied "No. Hair of my dad is short, because he just ago had it cut."
So far, positive comments have predominated whatever the reason is.
An indoor photo of my hair taken just after biking.

I will not dye my hair for a while....

Whew! I was bracing myself before I looked at your pics. I've always thought you were so cute with long hair. But it looks very good and it's still a nice feminine length. My hair is about that same length right now. I hope you experiment with some cute curler styles. One advantage of having hair that length is the styling versatility. You're one of my favorite Susan's people.

Hi, Lyric,
During the last 2 days, I was in a conference where my college friends also attended. About a half of them are now half bald. We joked each other on hair losses. Some said it was caused by stress whereas others said it was by genetics. A few said they are taking some professional treatment such as graft of artificial hairs. But, nobody seemed to envy my hair. Nevertheless, most of greetings to me were regarding my shortened hair like "why did you have your hair cut short?"
I was in men's formal dress, but I had a chance to wear one-piece skirt at night with my old friends.

Today my wife said that her friends at my apartment commented on my shortened hair. All wives said now I look more girlish, and regretfully my long hair was better in making me look like a man ::)
So many people are interested in my hair.

Cute hair cut! The short hair does look more feminine, but only because your hair is straight. I think if you added some volume to your long hair, and maybe have it curve around your face, it would look just as feminine (if not more so!). It's all about the styling girl ;).

Vanessa,
Indeed some women and also a few men recommended me to have wave hair, which I have never tried.
Maybe I may try waved hair later this year, but I am strangely afraid of doing that. Hair style is so much critical in the first impression.

I've come to the same conclusion. I frequently notice teenage boys with long hair that's in great condition, but they just look extra masculine from it. I know that if I let my hair spill into my face, I look like some sort of he-man (even if he-man had short blond hair.)
My best effects seem to be updos that frame the backs of my neck. My hair is severely damaged out of nowhere (plus medication shedding) and I want to cut a lot of it off to start again, but I haven't had it above my collar bone since 4th grade! And I'm deathly afraid I'll get an unflattering cut and stop passing. :/
I know a lot of FTM's do the really short hair cuts to try to be more masculine, but it usually makes them look like a lesbian.
