Title: do you think that god...?
Post by: Natasha on May 29, 2009, 02:10:14 PM
do you think that god desires the companionship of infinitely lesser minds of his own creation?

god is said to be perfect in every way. why would the infinitely superior mind of god create the infinitely lesser minds of humanity, and then test by free will our suitability to be with him, rejecting defectives to eternal damnation?

they way I see it, if there is one creator god, it's not "perfect"
It's more like your average misanthrope playing The Sims.

Oh dear.

How can a finite brain with only a few billion synapses and less than a trillion connections ever truly comprehend anything infinite?  By definition, any component of the divine is infinite.  And to try and define it is trying to put God in a box, which to my poor ape brain, cannot be done.  So any question you pose regarding an infinite deity, I.E. "Can God create a rock so heavy he cannot lift it?", becomes meaningless.

Once upon a time, I believed in God.  I think it's a great question, but unaswerable, at least by me.  I find more peace in treating people the way I would like to be treated, and helping others when I can.  I'll leave it to God (if, who, or what god is) to decide the rest. Not very enlightening, but, it keeps my head from hurting.

Like as pets?  Or is it one of those "I like you, but I don't like like you."

Of course not.  After god saw that we were a failure.  god moved on to other creations.

We are just treated like snotty nosed whinny brats.  And I don't even believe in the divine BS.

The only way to truly be happy with one's life.

I like to think we are not just God's creation, but his/her actual offspring, and as such they have a vested interest in our development.  As such, we are children, just mere babies with so little understanding of things infinite.  If we really are children of the Gods it would mean we too are eternal beings.

Which would make us little godlets, and since the child is father to the man, this winds up being about the most negative view of god I've ever run across.  Not to mention, pride goes before the fall and all.

Forgive my ignorance, but what was the bolded part mean?

That's what I've always thought too, Miniar.

If a god exists, it don't care about this world

God didn't create me. I created God.

and God ain't a 'he', it's a 'They'

and because I created Them. They are less perfect than even I.

It means, that at least in the Western World, we invented god in our own image and likeness.

Supposing there is a creator of the Universe, I will call that creator God.

Then, God created a remarkable thing of beauty. Certain parts are more beautiful than others because they are more interesting and varied -- galaxies are more interesting than the intergalactic vacuum; planets more interesting than stars (really, stars are much simpler systems than planets); Earth is more beautiful than a dry rock like Mercury or a ball of gas like Neptune; life is more beautiful than inert matter; and intelligent life that can observe the universe and create a model of it in the mind -- so that the universe contains copies of itself inside it -- is probably the most beautiful thing in the universe.

I see it as it's presented in Genesis, not the literal sequence, but the relationship described there: "And God saw that it was good."

So, yes, I figure that, having created the Universe, God would be interested in the more interesting parts of it, which would probably include humans, among many others.

As for the rest, that's a different story, and the way the question is posed doesn't lend itself to any illuminating answer, if indeed there is an answer.

That would be kind of nice. I've always felt that my pet dog gets the better end of the bargain.

"Sit up, and solve the differential equation, girl! You can do it! You can do i--GOOD GIRL! Catch!"

"Easy, girl. Easy. Wait. Wait. Waaaaait! SELL, GIRL! SELL THE STOCKS! Aww, your such a good, little girl! Yesh you are! YESH YOU A-ARE! Buy yourself a new yacht, girl. Goooood girl!"

And let's see, free healthcare, free food, free housing, etc...hmmmm

Mama didn't raise no fool.

not pet dogs who are forced to fight or are starved and beaten and otherwise abused by their [in]human masters.
