I like playing video games, especially RPG's. This past spring, I was hooked on Resident Evil 4 trying to unlock a weapon and after about two weeks I finally decided to use my cheat disc and give myself special powers. Then I got the thing in about thirty minutes.

Me. I own a DS and a 360 and love them both. I play Left 4 Dead every now and then, and I used to play Team Fortress 2 quite often, but haven't touched it in a month or two.

I love video games. They were a great source of relief for me for years, playing female characters (even when I had the option to play male characters) and getting into the role mentally. I especially love RPGs, like the Final Fantasy games.
I've currently got a DS Lite, PSP Slim, PS3, Wii, N64, GCN, SNES, GBC, and Game Gear. ^_^;
I also have a very powerful computer for gaming and love playing MMOs, like WoW, FFXI, DDO, etc. I'm really looking forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic and Final Fantasy XIV Online~

I also love playing video games, have a ps3 on my truck and it helps pass the time, for instance today I played Army of Two for like five hours. I also have COD4, COD world at war, Killzone, Fear 2, Hotshots Golf, and more I can't think of right now.
I maybe 45, but I am just a big kid who has never grown up and problaby never will, who knows.
Hugzzzz to all,

Video games and I have been getting along for a long time, although my more recent consumption has decreased greatly from what I used to pull. To name some of my more notable time sucks...
Played EQ for 7ish years. WoW for about 6 Months(the time it took for me to level to 70 twice and get bored)
Was in a 3rd ranked GvG Guild in Guild Wars for about a month for the original game
3rd prestige CoD4(which has since become 6th prestige with the combined effort of my younger brother and I)(the first 3 times were me...)

I played action and side-scroller games when I was a kid. I then did FPSs (mostly of the id Software variety) until my early-mid 20's (I finally got bored, heh). Since then, I've mostly played RPGs, primarily of the console variety, particularly ones I get to command a small group of characters (action or turn-based).
In terms of characters, I like variety. Considering the rest of media in life overall has a stereotypical lean, I have a special place in my heart for characters/societies that lean in different directions, but authenticity, depth, and entertainment are important, too. And, uh, I'd usually ike to have decent gameplay if I'm going to sink several hours into a game.

I started video gaming in MMOs with Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out. Since then I have tried various other games like Lineage II, EQ and EQ II, and of course WoW. I stopped playing WoW about 2 months ago when I had to go on a lengthy business trip and havent picked it back up.
I am currently looking for a new MMO, but havent been able to find one. I am looking forward to Star Trek Online and Star Wars Old Republic though.

Lately i've been exploring some old games. At the time my pc was never good enough to run them on full settings, now I can enjoy them with all the trimmings.
I'm currently playing Mech Warrior 4, including the expansions. I love it. Not that I have any time now with the new baby.
I'm not a big fan of social network games i.e. online gaming. I prefer the solitary escapism. RPG's, Strategy, some first person shooters.
I would love to play Witcher. I'll find me a copy at some point.

Oh man, I love video games! RPGs are generally my favorite genre. My favorite games of all time are Final Fantasy X (I could play that one 100 times and it still won't bore me!) and Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits.
I also love massive multiplayer online games like WoW (I can't afford it but I play at a friend's house) and Perfect World.
Oh, and I have a special place in my heart for Katamari Damacy. I'm such a geek. :D

Yeah, it's the first person ones - which is most of them these days. ::) I didn't have that trouble back in the olden days when each time you turned you got a different static shot. (Turn east, you get one view, turn north you get another, etc.) But once they started making the scenery slide by as you turned, I just couldn't play any more. :-\ So these days I mostly play puzzle games, and the odd old-school RPG or mystery game, when I can find one that will run on Vista or XP.

But what is the fun in video games? I tried once but got so frustrated I gave up. OK, I'm in an age group that didn't grow with them, but so is Janet (sorry dear :-*) and she plays them.
I suppose what I'm after is what do you get out of them? Obviously fun but in what way.
Sorry to sound stupid. Actually I'm use to it

Some give people a way to escape reality for a little while or a chance to be someone or something else in their mind. Some can be played competitively against other people, some can be played cooperatively with other people.

Games can also give someone a sense of accomplishment or achievement, and even though it's completely trivial, that's something that can make people feel good. Did I think I accomplished something by playing Portal? Of course not, but it was a fun!
I played WoW for awhile, but I finally got bored after most of my friends stopped playing too. I used to be into FPS games a lot, but lately I've moved away from shooters and have been playing strategy & puzzle-type games. Mirrors Edge was the last game I bought and it was great. It combined FPS-style action but was at its core a puzzle game. I spent most of my time in the non-combat levels just jumping from place to place trying to beat my last time. I can't say there are that many games that I'm excited about coming out soon, hopefully something will pick up my interest again.
I think games should catch up to their real story telling potential soon. The technology is getting better, hopefully game developers realize they're making games instead of movies. If they start treating their creative process that way we should start seeing much more involved stories driven by player actions, instead of game play that has to coax players along set paths until the ending.

It depends upon the game. In RPGs, for me at least, I get cought up in exploring another world. I want to know what's behind that locked door, or on the other side of that river that I haven't figured out yet how to cross, etc. There is also the mental challenge of figuring out ways around obstacles. Shooters and old-fashioned arcade games are really about the challenge of seeing how many levels you can beat. I used to get really frustrated with those back in the joystick days. Never could get the hang of those stupid things. Puzzle games are, obviously, about the mental challenge of the puzzle. And then there are games like Chuzzle which are 3/4 about shutting down all but the analytical part of your brain and zoning out, and 1/4 about sadistically annoying those cute little fuzzy guys. ;)

I love games. My favorites of all time would be TES III: Morrowind (most immersive game ever, especially modded), Shenmue 1 & 2, Mass Effect, Counter Strike and cs:s, Sims 2, and Final Fantasy 7.
Lately I've been revisiting old Squaresoft games, right now I'm playing thru Final Fantasy V. FF7 is the only one I've beaten, but I wanna beat all of them, as well as Saga Frontier.
For awhile I hardly played any games, mostly just building a town in Sims 2, and Simcity 4. But now that I'm less depressed I feel like broadening my horizons :D

I love all sorts of PC games. Some notable favorites over the years have been (in no particular order) Daggerfall, Company of Heroes, EQ, WoW(but less than EQ), SWG(pre nerfs), City of Villains/Heroes, Shooters like Doom, Quake, mods for them, and a slew of others like RTS and such.
I think playing them has helped me cope with my gender issues somewhat. All of my characters have been female. It's my alternate identity I guess. I recycle one name in particular but it would be impracticle to use as a girls name in real life sadly. Hmm, maybe a merge of it and my name....

Hahaha! Video games has become so big all around the world haven't day? I still remember the day my dad brought home an old school atari system and I was super excited! Then after that the NES and it just took off from there...
I play all kinds of games though! They have always been apart of my life and I don't expect that to change any time soon. My favorite game genres though would have to be RPGs, FPS, Action/Adventure, and probably simulation and Fighting.

We have a 360, PS3, PS2, Wii (and consequentially games for GameCube and NES), N64, DS Lite, GameBoy Color, GameBoy Advance... Hmm... And probably other things I'm forgetting. I have a nice little Macbook that plays many computer games for me, very well. I like some pretty cheesy games, sometimes. Harvest Moon. I always feel really bad about that one. Other than that, I tend to like Sims games, Zelda games, RPG like WoW, Fable, Fallout, Oblivion (and the others of the series)... Etcetera. Really enjoy blowing up ghouls in Fallout 3. Plus it's an RPG so my character always looks awesome.
(I should also mention that all of my characters have been male.)

Most of my favorite games are developed by Japanese publishers; The Chrono series, We Love Katamari, Shadow of the Colossus, and Metal Gear. Not to mention I play a mean Pikachu at Smash Bros (any of 'em) :3

I've been playing video games for over 20 years, and while my time to play them has diminished, my enjoyment of the medium and interest in the industry still goes strong.
I started with an NES at 7, which basically glued me to Nintendo consoles and games. For the most part, Miyamoto's work sculpted my interests. That is, Mario games hooked me on platformers, Zelda games determined the type of adventures I enjoyed, etc. Pajitov's Tetris blew my mind and gave me an affinity for anything with falling pieces. And finally, a friend introduced me to RPGs in my freshman year of high school, starting with Secret of Mana. By the end of the year, I'd devoured it, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, Chronotrigger and Super Mario RPG.
Overall, my interests aren't too different from others with a similiar gaming history or introduction. This does pain me though in that it seems the industry in general no longer significantly caters to gamers like me. The hottest genres are all those which I don't care for: sports, racing, "urban" sandbox, and shooters (both first- and third-person). I know the kind of games I like are still being made, but I recognize they no longer define the industry as they had in the past.
Games I look forward to now include A Boy and His Blob (gorgeous!), Metroid: Other M (striking!), The Last Guardian (need a PS3!), Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (still need to play Partners in Time!), and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (such a long wait!). In the meantime, though, even with my kind of games only coming around every once in a while, my limited playtime has left me very behind, so I'll always have something to play. . .whenever I peel myself off of World of Warcraft, that is.
(Quick note: Wii owners without Boom Blox. . .play it now! Rented it last weekend; will likely buy the sequel soon.)

I like video games, but I'm into the classic ones, the 2D kind, since I'm ancient :) Anyway, I used to program for a major game company and that was a pretty cool experience.

Has anyone played Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the DS? It's a weird hybrid of traditional and strategy RPG, and it has more strategic depth than any game I've played. It's quickly becoming one of my favourite games ever.

Killer Instinct
SPINAL!!!
You got Killer Instinct: Gold on N64? Best one I think
Give me Spinal and it's done.
They need to either remake the series or release another installment into the series, just think about it, online play on Xbox 360. If people can buy SF4 and like it then those who love fighting games would so eat up Killer Instinct, I mean come on it's that awesome! Well that and Eternal Champions, and we all can't forget Marvel vs Capcom 2 now can we?

Hehe, I like the original arcade version the best although it was a bit buggy. The SNES port is the one that I play, never played the second version. Yea, I wish they would bring this back and actually people pester RARE all the time about it, but I don't think we'll ever see it unfortunately.
I love fighting games and they are experiencing a resurgence at the moment. Alas, we may never see the day that Spinal suits up and heads back out to the fighting arena >:( :'( :embarrassed:

Yes, I absolutely LOVE video games (as you can probably tell from my screenname)...
I'm a bit one-sided in my video game interests though, as I only play Nintendo, not PS or Xbox. I don't have anything at all "against" the other brands, I've just always been a huge Nintendo fan, and it's kind of a hobbie for me that goes beyond just playing the games to include collecting as well.
I have the NES, SNES, N64, Game Cube, Wii, DS (all 5 home systems, but currently only one portable system, I miss my original GameBoy soooo much). I collect games for all of them, play them all fairly regularly (although the NES and SNES most often of them all), and I collect Nintendo-themed shirts, action figures, and other Nintendo-collectibles (mint tins, PEZ dispensers, etc).
The games that I love the most are: Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 (and actually almost all Mario games in general); Donkey Kong Country; ALL Zelda/Link games; most Kirby games; most Harvest Moon games; RC Pro-Am; Darkwing Duck; and many, MANY more... :)

I'm currently working on the (delightfully sadistic) Megaman 9, mucking around in Wily's castle. But I've also picked back up my Luigi playthrough of Super Mario Galaxy. I've felt very down lately, and just everything about that game feels and sounds so magical that I can "forget" things for a while.

Quote from: Anima on July 19, 2009, 06:23:21 PMYeah, you do die a lot in it trying to figure out what to do next. That was my biggest complaint, it seemed like they tried to make the gameplay longer by making it harder instead of adding more levels or story. I just loved how many different ways you could play the game and how there's more than one way to get through any one level. I also tend to like games with more interesting movement schemes, so the acrobatic moves in ME totally fit that.
It is ok, but it think it is a bit too hard, even on the normal difficulty. The jumping around on roofs and trying to figure out where to go next is fun, but then it is dying over and over again if i run into some guards and i just get lucky in the end.

Hmmm, I miss my old Atari 2600 (the original, not the rebirthed one). I remember playing computer games back before the days of video monitors, when we worked on terminals that 'displayed' all data on 18" wide paper printed with dot matrix. Played one of the first Star Trek games back in '76.
I haven't played a video game in several years, got bored with them, got too busy to let them suck away the few sleep hours I had. I used to love RPGs, FPSs, strategy games, and games made to make you think. Maiming and killing everything in site was a whole lot of fun. Now you have me thinking about going out and blowing some money that I don't have. Damn you all. ;)
Are there games out there (I'm so out of touch) that I can be a woman? Anytime I played a game and had the option of the female role, I was all for it! Any recommendations for an old, out of touch T?
