Post by: Princess on June 16, 2009, 01:52:46 PM
i have some facial hair that i want to get rid of, and i've tried pretty much every hair removal method, but it doesn't work to well. i finally gave up, and now i'm just going to shave it, but i don't want to use a man's razor. i have women's razors, but i don't know if they're safe to use on the face

I use them all the time.  I still have a bit of stubble and I still have to shave my face *grumble*.

They are fine to use.  Just remember, though, that if you shave your legs/under arms with them as well, they will become duller faster.

I also use the same moisturizing shave gel that I use on my legs for my face as well.  I helps reduce razor burn.  I usually shave in the shower as was the routine of the guy it just makes things easier.  I shampoo/condition my hair and while it is setting I'll go ahead and shave.

One day I hope to never do that again.

I sometimes think I'm growing new facial hairs.  Too bad I can't harvest them and sell them.

If this is a serious question than yes it is safe. Razors are all made from the same material. There is nothing in a woman's razor that would prevent it from cutting hair on a man's face. Except the operator. And I would have to question that.

My skin is very sensitive, so I still have to use a razor which was designed for a guy on my face, otherwise I'd be a bloody mess.  Same with my legs.  Women's razor's cut up my skin.

all i use is womens razors, for everything, in my experience you just have to find the one or ones that work for your skin type. i have about 4 different ones i use, for an extremely close shave, then use moisturizer for razor burn, but it's usually not too bad. i usually end up with a much smoother face than my ex, i don't have a lot of hair to begin with, but if i know it's there it bothers me, even though i've seen plenty of bio-women with more facial hair than i've ever had.

also, there is this stuff called Kalo that you can buy on ebay. it is supposed to be the best hair growth inhibitor if used correctly. they have cream, spray, among a number of other products for hair removal, and it's supposed to be permanent. when i get money, i will buy it and try it for myself, right now i get stuff from avon, but it only slows it down for a couple of days and you have to put it on really thick.

I'd imagine that if you knew how to operate it without slitting your own throat you could use a straight-razor on your face.

Just FYI, the "women's razors" tend to be not so sharp as the "men's ones." Most of the women I know use men's razors even to shave legs. Smoother, closer cuts and better blades than "women's razors."

I checked out some producer sites and the main difference is the color and the marketing.  A slight difference in the handles is available in some models.

Price is often a difference too....For example, I've seen one popular company make some ladies shaver heads which are exactly the same as the male ones except have a different color and cost more.

And many have a moisturizing strip.  I use Gilltte fussion with moisturizing lotion as shavecreme.

I found that Gillette Fusion worked best for me, while being a man's razor. But it's all on what works best for you and your skin.

Guys razors have a goo strip too, usually blue or green, not pink, but it's there on some models.

I find the schick extreme 3 does what I need without being too expensive. I've used it for shaving my face (of course) but also my upper body and upper thighs. I've had no problems with them. For me, they are just as effective as they Gillette 3 blade models, but slightly cheaper.

That brings up a thought!

How do you tell the sex of a razor?

Look between its blades?

I love my old-fashioned double-edged razor.  It's definitely a 'boy' razor, and it's a bit pricey to start, but the blades are sharp and do a good job, and you can get a 2-year supply of blades for about $15 on ebay.

There is not much difference between razors, the functional parts are practically identical and the rest is marketing and plastic. Like anything, try it in test patches if your worried about affects on your skin.

It's definitely a 'boy' razor,

The only 'boy' I ever saw use one was my grandpa.  And even he switched out at the end.  And women used them to shave their legs, my mom did right up to the invention of the Trac II in 70 or 71.  By the way the original safety razor, as opposed to a single blade real straight razor - and now there is man's shave, one wrong move, you're hamburger - was invented by a guy named King Camp Gillette, who was a pretty interesting guy with a pretty interesting life.

I use a women's electric shaver for all my shaving needs, including face. In my experience, they give a closer, smoother shave than men's electric shavers, and cause far less irritation..

Though, it would seem to depend on your skin for sure. My dad, one time when he forgot to shave and was over at my apartment, borrowed my electric shaver to try to shave his face and it didn't work so well for him.

I have used a womens bikini trimmer on my beard for the past 6 years or so. Maybe 8. Same trimmer. Its been better than all the 'beard' trimmers I've used before that. I think I'll cry when that thing finally breaks for good.

Precisely. The difference in the handles tends to be that the women's razors have the handle close to perpendicular to the skin when you are shaving, while the mens' tend to have the handle almost parallel. It's a small but significant difference -- it's a bit easier to shave legs with the handle perpendicular, and the face with the handle parallel, something about coordinating the pressure properly.

I actually find that when I take the time with my electric I get a better shave than when I use a blade for my face. Nothing worse than having to apply beard cover...  :-\

I use a Braun electric to preshave, followed by my Gillette Fusion.  I get really close that way.  And I use Shave Secret with the electric.  If I am going out, rarely, I use the Shave Secret with moisturizer as shave creme.
