You're not alone. Most of us have been in (or are in!) your shoes.
Don't worry about making a mistake -- you don't have to do anything you're not completely comfortable with!
First stop many of us make is a gender therapist to help us sort out what's what.
Welcome to Susan's.

No matter what the answer is, asking questions about who you are is never a mistake.
It's a normal reaction to be scared at first - after all, it's a giant leap into the unknown.
There's plenty you can do (in addition to a gender therapist) to explore your own identity without making permanant changes.
Look into buying a binder. A site called underworks sells some good ones. It's a type of undershirt designed to flatten (ie, bind) the... errr..... chest things.
Other things that rank up there as reversable but affirming are clothes and haircuts.
Even if you wear mens clothes normally, it's just nice to have some new shirts and jackets that haven't been stretched and distorted from wearing them pre-binding.

Hi
Try to not worry or be scared. You're not alone. There are many more people that are transgendered than you think. It's just that we keep it a secret so the government won't tax us as an organization (just kidding).
My point is really that there are many people who have felt as you do. It is a very individual feeling that each of us has had to take the time to work out in our own way. Even the people who know since they are children have to learn the practicalities of how to blossom.
You may experience different levels of certainty as you go along. as long as you take your time each phase and work it out for your own comfort, you'll be okay.
Whether you turn out to be transgendered or not, this is going to be one of the most important self learning experiences of your life. I mean that you will be learning more about yourself than most people ever know. All that self knowledge is kind of cool once you think about it.
Peace,
Rebis
