Title: transition or ???? Not transition
Post by: Tina2 on July 14, 2009, 09:12:35 PM
Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if there is anyone here that has decided not to transition for what ever reason it may be.
There is a lot of help out there for those who want to transition but I can't find any for those who decide not to transition or who can't for medical reasons.
Also is there any here that have transitioned and then wished they did not because they could not pass or some other reason.  Thanks for any answers, hugs and aloha.

You say 'There's a lot of help out there for those who want to transition', well not in my country there isn't. Obviously I have my doubts about transitioning and the whole process due to the lack of professional help within the U.K and the lack of noticable results from HRT.

On the few boards like this it seems at least like there is a lot of, if not help, encouragement.  But transition is process, with all the steps in the correct order.  Working it out in other way in some sense is stepping off the map, where no clear path can be seen.  However, many, if not most of us, and perhaps our cases are not as strong or compelling, do find other way of varying effectiveness.

It seems to me that people have the wrong concept of what it is to transition.  One does not need medical help to transition.  One simply needs to live in their chosen gender.  I know several trans-women ho cannot use hormones, or have no thoughts of any surgeries (for medical, financial, or personal reasons), yet do quite well and can live a happy life.  The first and only thing you need to do is live.  Our path is certainly more difficult than a "normal person" (whatever that means), but, life is challenging for everyone.  That being said, would I be happy without hormones, or upcoming surgery?  No, but we do what we can and what we must, and if we don't, there is no one to blame but ourselves.

I disagree. If someone looks overtly male with male physical characteristics they need medical intervention in order to facilitate a physical change. Otherwise they would get comments like  'look at that bloke in a dress' which would be very disressing for that person.

You may get the odd TS who started transitioning at 12 but they would have still needed to take HRT in order to effect female physical characteristics as early as possible.

I'm certainly not saying that we shouldn't take every step we can and agree on the "blending in" idea.  Regardless of what we think or say, it does matter to us what pople think.  However, some (I'll just say girls) cannot take hormones because of a medical condition, or any of the other steps that most of us take.  It doesn't mean they still can't live as female.  If there is a NEED and DESIRE to transition, thats not going to change because we can't take meds.  It's not ideal, but really, what is?  Hormones or surgery do not define our gender, and so many transitioning think that that is all there is to it.  So, I agree with you, but want to qualify it.
