There are over 800,000 castrated men in India.The Hijira have a special place in Indian Culture.
Most of India's 800,000 eunuchs are castrated as children to make them appear more like females. Members of the community, who consider themselves women, regularly take in India's unwanted boys and castrate them. Some homosexuals voluntarily undergo castration to join - it is a career move.
