Barack Obama's proposed national health care plan will offer free sex change operations and require commercial plans to cover the surgical procedure if they do not already do so.

"Instead of allowing insurance to compete by offering different benefit packages, the Democrats are considering insurance mandates to cover exotic benefits that individuals may not want to buy such as [....] sex change operations," writes lawyer and conservative political analyst Phyllis Schlafly.

It's not exactly on the table in the health care debate, but then again, neither is health care to be sure.

If it is one of the benefits, be prepared to have a long waiting list.

I doubt it.  The demand is not that high.  It might seem like it if you read these posts here, but in the world there are only a few people doing it full time, if there were more of a demand, there would be far more doctors doing it.

Sometimes waiting and getting results is better than waiting and still not being able to afford things. You know, generally speaking, like every facet of healthcare in this country if you don't have insurance.

I'd just be concerned by the quality of the work done, obviously an operation like that is worth ever penny for the best results.

edit: Also 'sex-swap' is just obnoxious. Makes it sound like people could just go back and forth whenever they wanted to because the demoncrats are using our taxes to pay for it.  ::)

Why does this read like the "bathroom" strategy taken to health-care re-form? Especially coming through Schafly?

Just because old (and damn she's getting old) Schafly was wrong about three or four thousand times before, maybe she got this one right!

Over here it's a two year wait. I'm not basing this on a forum, but a government that actually pays for these operations.

It will be interesting to see how far they go with this if it does pass into law and how long it will take  :icon_chick:

The Xtian Reich will never let it get that far.  They will find a way to kill it.

To pay for it we need to get rid of the Tax Exempt Status for Religious groups.

I certainly hope that was meant as a joke  ;) , because it never happened.  That is like some saying that we can not change our gender, because it is in the DNA.  While we can not alter the DNA, but the mind is a powerful thing.

And when I refer to the Xtian Reich, it is not the individual Christians.  It is to refer to the Ultra Right Wing Conservative Holy-than-thou groups.  My G/F happens to be Christian.  And they have the money and power to stop any true human rights laws.

When one paints all Christians with the same brush, from now on I will make similar observations. Even when there is only one such case that I know of, personally, within the Wiccan faith community.

They're not devil worshippers. >:-)  They are very misguided regarding clergy celibiacy however.

They sexually sacrifice little boys (sometimes the nuns do little girls) and they worship female divinity (Mary is not god) while claiming Christianity. And they worship the pope, who's kind of like the anti-christ.
