SILVERTON, Ore. - After hours of debate Monday night, the Silverton City Council decided to censure its transgender mayor.
Mayor Stu Rasmussen admits he wore an open-back bathing suit, mini skirt and high heels when he went to speak before a group of kids for a Silverton-based non-profit group.
A member of that organization was not happy with the attire and filed a complaint with the city.

Obviously the attire was not very businesslike. Nor is it something a woman would were when meeting a group of non profit contributors. Let alone being Mayor. Really was a bone head move on Stu's part.

I'm trying real hard to think of any other town that size that is getting this kind of press, and I can't do it. For the most part, small town mayors don't have much power, or impact (its the council, or manager that spends the money) and Silverton ought to be left to solve its own dress code issues independent of national attention.

He is news because he represents the oddity factor. He wants to be considered a man but looks like a tarted woman. Personally, I am unsettled about him and wish he would tone down his attire. His statements that he likes to dress "sexy" but still be considered a man feeds the autogynephilic theory. That he is, in some small way, representing transsexuals and transgender people is unfortunate.
