Title: New here
Post by: Scott on September 21, 2006, 09:14:09 PM
Hi everyone, my name is Scott. I'm new to all of this. Just signed on to find some info and/or obtain some advice about surgery. Have been reading other sections of this website and find it to be a great resource for lots of different things. It's a great site!!!

I've been in the process of transitioning for about 5-6 yrs now. Working toward my final surgery (God willing) and just wanted to see if anyone has any info regarding surgeons.

Take care, thanks for sharing your stories.

God Bless,
Scott

Welcome Scott :)

I agree with you this is a great site  ;D

Not sure how much of the site you have found so far but in addition to the great topics and conversations from members on the forums there is also a reference library and WIKI.  The chat feature is support based and is great for meeting friends and for those times when you just need someone to talk to.

There are several FtM's here at Susan's in various stages of transition so hopefully you can find some of the information you are seeking from them.

Enjoy your stay Scott..hopefully it will be a long one  :)

Hello Scott and welcome to Susan's!

Glad you decided to be part of our family.  You will indeed find plenty of useful information all over the site; please feel free to explore all the forums, get familiar with the site rules and try our chatroom where you can talk to some of our members who are going through a transition as well.  Or if you prefer, you can always visit our wiki (https://www.susans.org/wiki/Main_Page) where there are many great articles on transgender and non-transgender issues alike.

Thank you for your introduction.  We look forward to your future posts.  Enjoy your stay!

And, Scott, to answer questions. You may be the furthest along of any of us. I have been the furthest along up to now and I'm only 1.5 years on T, had top surgery, and fighting the bureaucracy for hysto atm. I haven't got to fighting them about bottom surgery yet, largely because I haven't decided what I want either. I'm thinking phallo because I don't appear to have the, er, endowment to make a meta worth the effort.

My main concern with phallo though is the complication rate. Particularly with urethral extension. That and getting it paid for. I'm in Canada and I paid for my own chest surgery because I would have had to wait 3 or 4 years if I didn't and it was very important to me. Allegedly, our surgeries are covered, but the hoops are utterly unbelievable. I'm having a very frustrating time with the hysto. I have a willing gyno, supportive doctor, psych assessment, and still can't get one.
