I get a lot of junk mail, most is trash but occ. get stuff of interest. I received a piece of such junk the other day and thought I'd let them know to change the name. Gets irritating to get mail addressed to Female Name.
So I fired off an email to the contact listed on their website. Here is their reply:
"Sorry about the mix up in names. I checked the source of your name and it came from the XYZ Company, but it is possible that the software used by the direct mail company changed it for some reason.
Thank you for letting us know and I apologize again for the error."
Yep, that's the reason, all right. Might just use that elsewhere!! LOL

when i first did my name change, i forwarded all mail to Lady Name to a PO box that I rented for $12. I checked it occasionally, updated my name on the random stuff I wanted to keep receiving, and called the rest to say that Lady Name was no longer living at my address. I stopped getting mail addressed to my Lady Name and closed the PO Box. Now I get nothing for Lady Name, but I do occasionally get mail for my sister. I live in San Francisco. She lives in NYC. I'm not really sure how that happened.

I'm still getting junk mail addressed to a business I owned but closed more than 10 years ago, primarily magazines that I never even subscribed to. I haven't forwarded my mail in ages; I just update those companies directly. Somehow, some junk mail manages to find me. And now some of it is addressed to my brother, which is funny, seeing how he and I are not even in the same business and this is business-specific junk mail. Those Junk Mailers can be very persistent.
There were some e-mail sites that I resorted to telling "Sadly, Female Name is no longer with us. Please change the name on the account to Male Name." Which prompted "Sorry for your loss." as a reply. ;D

The post office won't forward things like catalogs and flyers, so a good way to get rid of them is to forward your mail, even temporarily, to a po box.

Anything that now comes in the old name, I have begun to write "Return to Sender - Deceased". It will take awhile but it is only a couple of seconds and I know it works because I had some advertising that would come monthly. I did this last month and it has not returned.
