That's fantastic! I'm glad you have an understanding father. It must feel really good.

I wish my father would come around, but I doubt he ever will before he's gone, in fact I know he won't. I've given up on about half of my family, for the sake of my own well-being.

Regarding "swearing"... I've had a potty mouth my entire life and it's not a habit that's going away soon. But TBH, I fit right in with my cisgen female friends. Some of them are much worse than I am.

the swearing thing is so funny! i was so bad when i was younger, i could swear the hide off a drunken sailor just talking in in my sleep w/o using the same word twice! i really had to make a very concious effort to put that habbit to bed. i feel like crawling in a hole if i slip. swearing is definately not lady like!

That is great. I wish my family would be accepting but the more I see their attitude about this the less I like them. So it makes it easier, seeing how distasteful their personalities are. It is not like I couldn't see it before but I guess this forced me to deal with it. Or not deal with it, as I have chosen to do.

As an ex-sailor and ex-a-few-other-things, I definitely know how to swear.  But my second GG partner had a much worse mouth than I did.  And one time just before we were married my first GG partner let out a belch in McDonald's that rattled the windows.  I had to admire her though, because she immediately looked at me as: How could you?  I guess I was always more lady-like than my GG partners. ::)

It's wonderful that your father is so completely accepting and understanding, Laura.  I'm really happy for you.  And gentle lessons in comportment are always good.  It shows that they care about you. :)

Your story gives me warm fuzzies.  Thanks. :icon_hug:

Aye, but one is destined to learn an interesting vocabulary whilst visiting Navel facilities.

I'm glad your father is so understanding of you Laura. Even giving you pointers? Wow!!!

I haven't fully come out to my folks yet but they seem to already know.
Basically they all talk to me like a girl

He told me that if I had come out when I was 11 he would have dealt with it as best he could and let me be my true self. On the one hand it was cool, but on the other hand I was thinking "well I wish that I had known this back then." Oh well, you can not change the past.

That's real easy for him to say now.  Don't beat yourself up over the missed opportunity that may not have actually existed.

LOL! That's funny (about the swearing)!

I never swore before (transition) but after, working with men, I developed quite the potty-mouth! It was HARD to clean up my language when I moved from the shop into the front office  ::)

Great news Laura :-*.
And I'm very pleased you stood up for yourself with he otherperson. It all helps.

As for swearing I reckon guys seem to swear in "normal" conversation, which I hate. Girls tend to swear when they want to make a point. Claws out and teeth sharpened.

There was a real cat fight in my office recently, two of the women just went for it. The guys were totally shocked. Brutal language, insults, remarks, swearing. Didn't touch each other. But wow. Don't think I could have stood my ground, they each did. Very interesting.

Take care Hun

Hi Laura,

I love hearing stories like this, makes me a little bit hopeful/optimistic that there is a chance that when I am ready to come out to my mom that she'll be that understanding and accepting. (fingers tightly crossed)

As for the swearing, I have known plenty of GGs who could out-swear any guy I have ever known.  :o

Cindy, speaking of cat fights, I had learned to have a deep respect for GGs when they get riled up when I was studying/teaching martial arts. The women that I trained with - regardless of rank - were among the most aggressive fighters I had ever seen. They would intimidate even the most macho of the male students. I often found myself wishing I could have been so uninhibited.

Now keep the stories coming and maybe soon I'll be able to tell of my inspiring experiences.  :icon_hug:

Just take it for what it's worth, Laura.  I'm happy for you!

I can swear in three languages! (and I often do! LoL)
