Title: un-birthday/re-birthday - transitioning begins?
Post by: Deanna_Renee on September 27, 2009, 09:40:22 AM
Okay, this may seem a stupid question to some, but I have been confused and wondering if I could get an answer.

I have read people referring to their un, or re-birthdays as a celebration of the anniversary of them starting to transition (or some other significant marker). This has let me to ponder what is considered to be the starting point of transitioning? Is it considered the day you first come out to yourself? Start HRT? SRS?

I'm not sure if it would be very important for me to celebrate the anniversary of this or not, but just wondering when I can say that I have or will start to, technically, transition.

Many of us have several re-birthdays.  For me, April 1 (2008) is when my new puberty began (HRT), September 4 (2008) Name change and September 13 (2008) RLE.  And I am sure that when I have my Orchie will be yet another one.

But most it is when SRS is complete, when transition is complete.

IMHO,

Thanks to Dr. Meltzer's schedule, I had SRS on my 63rd birthday. Next June, I'll be 73 and 10.

Can't get much simpler than that.

Thank you ladies, I guess what I was more curious about (and somewhat confused about) is at what point do folks consider the start of transitioning? I'm guessing 're-birthdays' are considered to be the day SRS is done.

The dates I really remember are when I started HRT and when I started full time.  For me, full time was the real beginning of Katherine and the development of Kate. :D

I don't remember the date my name change became official, although I can look it up.  It was after starting RLE.

I'm pre-op, so SRS isn't a factor for me yet.  I wonder, though, about thinking that is the end of transition.  (Keep your mouth shut, Kate!  >:(  Don't start an argument! :eusa_naughty:)  I guess it could be seen that way just as the beginning of RLE is the start.  There's a lot to be done before starting RLE, and it would surprise me to find that there isn't still some more to be done after SRS.  So I suppose it depends on your definition of what constitutes Transition.

(I will now retire to my lounge where I will accept all incoming flames. ;))

My HRT and RLE started on the same day, my official name change somewhat later. As far as I'm concerned, my SRS will mark the end of my transsexual transition, and I'll be damned glad to be done with it. They are all milestones, but my birthday is my birthday and having to be reminded you're another year older once is bad enough lol

I use name change since I was already living full time and out to everyone by then and it is easy to look up court records.
