Title: Anyone else on Ogen for estrogen?
Post by: Autumn on October 30, 2009, 01:07:15 AM
Or estropipate I suppose. The brand name Ogen is no longer manufactured.

I saw a real endo today and began actual, legitimate hormone treatment. He didn't change anything from my self-administered meds, except to switch me off estrofem to Ogen, explaining that it more consistently supplies you with E, instead of spiking it and then dropping off, allowing T to start rising again even if briefly. He increased my dose, but not to an outrageous level - 25% higher, since my T is still too high.

I've never heard of this medication before or anyone using it, what he explained made sense, but I'm just curious.

That's the point of a valerate or cypionate ester when added to plain 'ole 17β-estradiol, to lengthen the chain length so it takes longer for the liver to process leaving (in theory) a longer lasting pharmacokinetics.
