Title: confused on some things on hrt
Post by: YellowDaisy on November 01, 2009, 07:47:48 PM
i've heard so many different stories on what has happened to mtf transsexuals on hormone replacement therapy. some say they lost about two inches in height. some say they lost some facial hair. some say that they might have become more petite in bone structure. i've heard all these things, but alot of people have also told me that those things do not happen. it's so confusing, and there is no set in stone answer, because it seems like i could ask many different people, and they've all had their own stories. i've decided to look at it this way, there is nothing that cannot happen, but some of them are guaranteed, some of them are not. does that sound about right?

Other than the "some of them are gauranteed," that's sounds about right. Nothing is gauranteed.

I am going on 18 months HRT.  And I have lighter body hair, but not gone.  I am the same height as when I began and so are my feet.

I am still bald on top, but slowly, very slowly filling in.  Facial hair need laser or electro, period.  Bone structure will remain the same unless you are preteen.

Most of what you have hear are urban legends.  Sort of a YMMV.

Lets see, Results not typical, Everyone is different. etc.  Really it all depends.  Some people have very little change on hrt.  Others well it can be all over the map.  Unless your still growing, IE oh under 18, bone structure does not change much,  Read none for all intents.  Soft tissue normally does change,  Fat get redestributed, hair may start filling in on the head and body hair generally gets lighter and thinner.

Me with almost 3 years  on hrt.  lost about 50 percent muscle mass, lost what little body hair I had.  Scalp hair filled in some.  finger nails changed shape, got a little smaller and rounder. Eye lids changed a little and eye lashes got longer.  My back side filled out rather nice, so I'm told.  Some breast growth about typical.  fat redistribution  in cheeks, butt, legs and etc.

Oh then there is the mental changes also which are harder to describe.  Lots of little shifts etc with the mind.

I have not lost any height and my shoe size is still a petite 11W :-).  The end result is that I look completely different from the really old me.  Really a  shocker somethings.  Thats  just with HRT, SRS and BA.

Your mileage may differ.

it really depends person to person what happens and what doesn't happen. A lot of it has to do with your genetics. It also takes time for changes to happen. Some changes you might notice right away and some might take some time. I've been on HRT for just over 3 years, and I'm still experiencing changes. After SRS (or an Orchi) you may even still experience more changes.

I've had a lot of changes myself, but I don't compare myself to anyone else because everyone else is different.

Unfotunitely nothing much happens at all! most of the things you have listed are complete myths. You may get slight breast growth and less body hair in some cases on HRT. A very small per cent sometimes get slight fat re-distribution but this is quite rare.

Males who are pre- puberty (about 12 years of age) could benefit from HRT as they are not yet fully developed and could develop physical female atributes but after puberty it is very difficult to erradicate male development already effected in male adults.

I wish there were more comprehensive publications on the internet that tell the truth about the limitations of HRT and Anti - Androgens on male to female transsexuals. A good experienced and honest endocrinologist will tell you the limitations of HRT in detail.

I have been on HRT for about 4 months and on the facial hair issue: My beard grows a bit slower than it used to. My sideburns have changed completely and has what I would call feminine hair? And just below that my courser beard hair has become less course and lighter. However the dark and gray tougher whiskers have not changed a bit.

In 8 months I am just beginning to fit my b-cup bra, I have developed a clearly defined waistline noticeable in my clothes, and my body hair has decreased dramatically. My pubic hair has even completely changed shape and gotten lower and more sparse. I lost over 60 pounds just before starting hrt and have gained 10 pounds back afterwards, and so far it's all gained back in the right places (mostly breasts and hips). I already had a full head of hair but it is getting thicker now. Not everyone's results are a myth, I'm pretty convinced it's very individualized what your results will be and you can't assume someone else's results will be what you get, or that someone else will get what you got. Probably best to not expect a lot at first but you can still hope for the best.

It is going to be different for everyone. Not to mention DNA is going to play a role in this. If the women in your family are all tall and skinny, well don't expect much in the way of fat redistribution. After 6 months I have seen some softer features in my face, hair on top is thickening. Slower body hair growth. and my breasts are starting to show. Also my hips are a little rounder. I can't say I have lost much muscle mass or anything else. But I'll take what changes I can get.

I don't buy that! my mum is short and fat and so was my father. I am thin and much thinner than both of them. To say you will be exactely like your parents is a long shot.

I'm not trying to argue here. But your genetic history can play a role here. I never once stated that it will 100% with certainty. Just like when you have a family line of brown hair and suddenly there is a blonde child. Nature will still throw twists in there.

Honestly read my post again and show me where I said you would look exactly like your parents? The point of my post was 'chances are if X don't expect Y' nothing more.

Each body seems to react differently.  Some get big changes; some get almost nothing.  Age plays a part - you are more likely to get changes when young than old.

Being old and seven months HRT, my breasts still won't fill an A-cup bra fully but they are getting there.  I've seen rounding on my shoulders and stomach below the belt and my face seems rounder.  I'm not sure about my butt.  My thighs seem to be thicker, but I'm not sure.  My skin is softening and becoming smoother.  I'm having my facial hair removed, so I don't know how that is affected, but the literature says it won't be affected much.  My scalp hair is different, but I think most of that is because I'm getting the gray covered up (dyed).  Bones are bones.

My sister and I are almost identical in size, but her waist is 2 inches higher (longer legs) and she has a lot more hip than me while I have more shoulder than she (female/male skeletal development).  We wear the same size shoes but I wear B width and she wears AAA.  Our hairlines are identical.  She's prettier than I (but I think I look more interesting ::)).  I don't know what her breast size is, but they aren't large.

Hormones will have a very large effect on some and almost none on others.  Probably more than any other aspect of this craziness of being TS, with hormones it definitely is YMMV.

Personally the way I view it is they affect absolutely every little thing on/in you to some degree and there is no denying that.

this is my thought, hair and bone structure probably do change, but at a very slow rate if you are transitioning from a full developed male, but by that time, you've already gotten ffs, and electrolysis, so it doesn't even matter anymore, but i think it will do that to some noticable degree for everyone, it just depends on where you started.

You can't change your bone structure with HRT unless you are about 12 years old!  ::)

Nothing can predicted with any kind of certantcy. My Mom has at least a D-cup, oldest Sister same, youngest Sister small B. Both same parents. I'm a small A. I've been on hrt close to 8yrs.
