Post by: Robin. on November 07, 2009, 12:08:50 AM
To what extent can hormones change your smell. Do they change your smell down there? (https://www.susans.org/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.easyfreesmileys.com%2Fsmileys%2Ffree-innocent-smileys-329.gif&hash=6334f5c4e75ee5cf037b6c704dea18db9d22fa45) (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/facebook-smileys.html)

Also...I could look it up, in fact I already researched it some but I'm not sure how accurate my info gathering was...Anyways, whats the average price of Hormones? Including androgens but not progestins.

Yes. I have develop a female smell down there.  And prices vary, depending on what you purchase them and if they are covered by insurance.

I thought insurrance would'nt cover anything related to transgender stuff. I have blue cross blue shield...do you think that would cover anything?

Your best bet it to ask your insurance company if they cover Hormone replacement therapy.  You don't need to tell them that you a TS, unless they cover most or all of the required treatment.  Also check with your HR department, or read the coverage you have  I had Kaiser and they covered HRT, with only a 20 dollar copay.  It depends on how it is coded.

I like the way I smell now, especially first thing in the morning.

Spiro will prolly be covered by your insurance, personally I wouldn't tell them a darn thing. Estradiol is iffy, but it costs about the same as a bag of skittles every day so it's no biggy. Dht inhibitors are spendier, and my health plan is pretty liberal but won't cover them without a specific prostate related diagnosis.   They can be found in generic form for manageable figures, just look up "generic avodart". If your insurance plan cares about your gender regarding the estradiol, wal mart doesn't and they sell it for very little.

My sense of smell is enhanced at 5-6 months.  I remember at like 3 months on E I walked into my friend's bedroom and :o wow his room is :icon_blah:  I tried telling him he smells gross, in those very words, but that didn't go over so well.

And yes, it's changed my own scent all over.  Not completely, but I haven't been on HRT too long yet.

Cost is variable based on what exactly you are prescribed and what your coverage is.  Estradiol in pill form (generic) is really cheap as far as medication goes, a 90 day supply still costs me less than my 30 day copay.  Spiro is kinda expensive, at least the dose I'm on, but my insurance picks that one up no problem.  But I'm also on a transdermal spray which my insurance only partially covers, as far as I can tell.  The retail cost is somewhere around $90 per bottle, the pharmacy charged me $60, my copay is supposed to be $25 for non-generics...So I'm not even sure how much it should really cost.  When I told the endo how much it was costing me he left the room and came back with 4 months worth for me - I like him ;D

My insurance policy has a "transsexual exclusion" clause, for what it's worth...so far the endo, blood work, & therapist hasn't been an issue though.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Gurls don't talk about this stuff...ok, when I pull my underwear down & pee it smells good, like a gurl, but it's not ladylike to talk about...cuz there's all a bunch of gurls here, & ya...does that really sound as stupid as it looks? Well I'm trying to think, & it's hard, every day, we're working hard...where did all the adults go?!?!
