Title: Lions lose...again
Post by: Bellaon7 on November 26, 2009, 06:19:14 PM
Why must we be subjected to this turkey team evey Turkey Day?! It's not right!

Because they have been doing it since 1934.

Don't worry, I hear on the next round of NFL expansion both Detroit and Cleveland are going to get pro football teams.

It's actually, at least to me, amazing at the sheer #'s(according to a FOX pole), of people who feel strongly about the traditional teams(Cowboys & Lions). I would be content if the teams were shuffled at random, at least then there be some game in the game some years.

Actually, most teams DON'T want to play on that day, it's only a 4 day rest period, though it does work out better in the following week.  But they have added an open game, this year its Denver/New York Giants - who, also suck.

Well there was one guy who really did want to play especially today, Dunte Culpepper. The only sense I can make of this is that the Lions really, really don't want to let him go. I agree with their strategy today, but I predict they will treat him very well tommorrow.

Maybe they can play each other and one can win on a play after time has expired because of a penalty? Yep has been and will be cowboys and lions on Thanksgiving for years  and for years  to come because we have not suffered trough it enough.

Hey, any year the cowboys lose is a great year, but of course this year, they got the Raiders, the only team with a worse record over the last ten years then the Browns or Lions.

Raiders, the only team I hate not being able to love, but next year will be different, even if it's kinda the same for the Raiders...

It's going to be the same until Al Davis dies.  Or gives up control, which I don't see him doing, so the Raiders are going to suck until he is gone.

I prefere to think positive, they have good altheates, just throw em' at the wall hope someone will stick around.

Haha I was going to post (well tried but I guess I forgot to hit the post button) that the Raiders, Cleveland and Lions should play a playoff for the worst of the worst. Al Davis is the doom of his team he will never give up control and they will never win until he does. So as stated above until he dies they will suck! I can't stand the Cowboys, they rank right up there with the Yankees in my book, but knew there was no way they would lose today. At least I know in the end Romo crumbles when it gets to the playoffs and they just aren't good enough to go very far anyway.

So they pay their players better than other teams

They still gotta play and win the games

I mean the bottom 3 teams run the entire team on less money than NYY spends OVER it's next closest team.  But since the Cubs are the 3rd highest paid team, perhaps money isn't everything.

Allows an owner to buy a championship. Won't happen in other sports like basketball or football because or salary caps and luxury taxes. In the end its all about numbers figure out how much more you earn from winning a championship figure out how much more you have to pay in salary to get the championship and then see how you can make the most. Of course ego gets thrown in there also.

Do salary caps work? Everyone seems to get around them one way or another.

Check the baseball payrolls vs. football
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/new-england-patriots/salary (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/new-england-patriots/salary)

or basketball
http://www.insidehoops.com/nbasalaries.shtml (http://www.insidehoops.com/nbasalaries.shtml)

With the caps in place there is less difference, but its still there

and it seems to make far more of a difference in baseball (Cubs excluded) than in hoops or football

I'm discussing from ignorance and wanting to understand. However a lot of USA sports is non-understandable to non-USAers.

e.g. Why are most of your athletes on drugs? But that is an aside

I recall the 49rs ruined by a salary cap and I never understood why.

Sports in the U!S!A! (the three most obnoxious letters in international sport by the way) are not just a game.  They are the most perfect expression of the American Culture (and, interestingly enough they are exceptional as the three big sports in America are really American inventions and developments) and as such are the perfect mirror of American Society - so the question answers itself.  Most of our athletes are on drugs because most of the American population is on drugs.  The rate at which we have little kids on heavy duty drugs for things that might or might not actually exist (ADD and other 'behavior disorders'), to the enormous alcohol production and consumption, the fact that Americans do the vast majority of illegal narcotics, the fact that in several places, including the number one agriculture state, Cali, illegal marijuana is the number one crop in cash value, drugs for depression, social anxiety, to help you sleep, to help wake you up, and some drugs are so freaking powerful, they mess with your mind so much that you can actually come to think that an evening at a rave, with hours on end of music that is beating faster than your heart (thus speeding it up) at a bone crunching level of volume and is mind-blowingly repetitive is actually a good idea.

I think the TARP would be easier to explain than the salary cap. A lot of teams ruin thiers by paying rookie QB's (Alex SMith) wack loads of money then they can't perform they are stuck with thier contract and they then have ot go pay another QB who can. Alex did just get his job back though. Basicaly paying players too much, being stuck with thier contracts if they are quaranteed, and having to then pay soemone else to do thier job. It is really more complicated than that but that but that is the basic version.

If you have the money you can buy great players. You can even import them

But you can't buy a winning season or a championship. The games still have to be played. The players still have to outplay the other teams and win

Why are most of you athletes on drugs?
Also projecting that most players are on drugs is ridiculous. Some players have had some problems with drug use.

Some players have had some problems with drug use.

I bet you that the number of people who play sport on a professional level who have never taken performance enhancing drugs is pretty much equivalent to the number of rock and roll lead guitar players who have never smoked Mary Jane.
