I've been noticing my hair thinning in the front lately. So I was wondering some things about hair loss.

For one, how do you knoe if you have male-pattern baldness, can it be diagnossed before too much hair loss occurs.

If I took propacia, or what ever it is cald, it won't encourage hair growth else where will it?

Does useing rogain work?

Once I start HRT will rogain and propacia work? or should I look into female hair loss treatment products?

They will still work at inhibiting what's left of T from converting to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT, the main cause of "male pattern baldness") but after starting spiro the need for it is greatly reduced.

Um Rogain is supposed to work, but it sounds like a pain to apply all the time. This would be one option.

You can get diagnosed with MPB early on. I did (went to see a dermotologist), no body noticed except for me and my hair dresser.  I now take propecia which seems to be working. Better to start early on something like propecia because you may not get it all back, or it just slows the loss. Also Propecia seems to work best on the crown of the head.

Usually you can tell is ti MPB because A) it is male patterned i.e. tends to be on the crown and hair line, also temples B) hairs will progressively get thinner and shorter over time. But there are other causes of hair loss so it is worth getting a diagnosis.

Propecia won't encourage hair growth anywhere else.

I have been using generic Rogaine and I an slllloooowwwwwlllllyyyyyy getting some growth.  I have been using it for almost 3 months now.  fingers crossed

Yeah. With Propecia they say you may take a year to see a good improvement, minimum 2 months to see much at all. I'm guessing Rogain is the same.

Also if you stop taking them you revert to where you would have been rather quickly (6-12 months). So it is a long term comitment.

Spiro should help though.

I don't think female hairloss treatments would work as they are usually caused by other things than MPB.

I've been also using the generic rogain. It is a pain to apply all the time. According to the instructions you are suppose to apply it twice a day. I only do it once in the morning when i get out get the shower. It works very slowly as Janet stated. I'm not sure how much regrowth i've had, but it defiantly stopped it from  falling out. It might work better if i used it twice a day.

Does rogain work on the front center area? thats where i am seeing some thinning, and online it says it does, but when I checked a box of it at wally-world It said it only worked on the vertex(top of the head)

It's technically only intended for the vertex, but some can experience regrowth elsewhere.

Nothing will really help with regrowth in the front.  A few got a little help but not significant.  Finasteride plus Minoxodil did a nice job on my crown,  The only real solution to regrowing hair in the front is transplants.  I may get a little filling in later on the crown, but have not decided yet since mine cam back pretty well..
